Does anyone uses modified keyboard bindings on a new M1 Mac? I am curious if this still works flawlessly on Apple Silicon by creating a new layout with Ukelele and then copying the layout to the /Library/Keyboard Layouts/ folder.

I am thinking about replacing my 2015 13“ MBP, but I need to rebind the US layout to include the German umlauts. I do not want to buy a German layout, since it sucks for programming. Thanks!

Hey, just got my M1 Mac, and I have been using my custom Ukelele keyboard layouts for a while.
Can't make them work on M1, they install without problems, but then whenever I try to switch to them being in an input field they just don't switch. Probably a macOS bug, haven't investigated it yet.

Yes. I just copied the file from my laptop (i7) to my mini (M1).

I put it in /Library/Keyboard Layouts/SE 0.3 ??‍?.keylayout

I had this problem too on my intel Mac, Big Sur 11.1.
I solved it by doing a new keyboard layout with the latest version of Ukelele.

I'm using brand-new (2021) MacBook Air OS 11.6 I have just created a keyboard layout for Armenian. I installed it, and it works for typing online, in emails or here, for example (կրնամ հայերէնով գրել) but not in TextEdit, Pages or Notes. I have not installed MS Word, but I fear it will also not work for that. I used a customised keyboard on my old laptop, but no one seems to be able to tell me how to transfer (whatever file permits key mappings to be use) to the new computer.

When I say "it does not work", what I mean is that the name of the keyboard layout appears in the menu at the top of the screen. However I cannot select it -- If I do, it reverts to either English or Greek (both of them are native, ie, they came with the system).

There is another way that the keyboard layout does not work: I just AirDropped it over to my old laptop to see how it would function. It works fine with TextEdit. But in MS Word, the icon associated with the layout appears at the top of the screen, but absolutely no keys work, not even the space bar.

Also, I downloaded version 2.5.4 of Ukelele for Mac 27 Sep 2021

Any suggestions MOST welcome.

PS I've restarted the computer 3 times.

I found a solution.
Just do not use Ukelele installation manager!

First, export new keyboard layout as installer disk image, mount image and just copy .bundle file to the Library/Keyboard layouts. Restart your mac and it should work.
