While trying to theme my calculator app to look like IOS7 I deleted the file by mistake. I managed to find a downloadable calculator app online but whenever I go to open it, it just closes again  anyone have any ideas why or a way to fix this?

What program did you use to delete it? If you used iFile it would still be in the iFile trash folder (as long as you didn't empty it).

permissions? I had no clue that I needed to set any permissions

It was just a guess. If you use iFile, you can see the "ownership" permissions. It might need to be mobile and not root, which ifunbox sometimes decides to turn it to when you transfer files over

That may just have been the problem then, I've factory reset and re-jailbroken again anyway due to other problems, but thanks anyway, I will check that if I ever do something stupid again! :)
