We won't know what real world performance will be like until it ships, but true to Apple aesthetics and functionality, the first impression of the specs and design of the mMP has exceeded my expectations. An expandable, extreme, beautiful beast. Can't wait to get my hands on it. If you are a Mac professional or just lust for the most powerful Mac ever, this is it. There is a lot of firsts here.

Feel free to agree/disagree and why.

Missing PCIe 4.0

At $6k, should have more than 8 cores and the workstation version of the 580 (WX5100 - as long as we are continuing the tradition of launching new mac pros with 2 year old video cards).

Otherwise, they definitely nailed it.

Some genius ideas that make total sense for the new mMP:
  • Double sided motherboard...360 access to the motherboard — why isn’t this a standard design for all mobo? It makes so much sense.
  • Modules...this is what Apple meant by modular. It’s going to be great for the Mac Pro ecosystem and third party component makers. Expect non-Apple branded modules from the likes of OWC, Sonnet, and vendors catering to the pro market. It’s a new day for businesses built around the Mac.
  • Thermal architecture... “state-of-the-art thermal architecture to allow the processor to run fully unconstrained all the time..." Is this the first Mac not limited by thermal throttling? Would be good to shut down the tired, overblown “thermal gate” complaints from click baiters.
  • Retro-industrial casing subframe - I like the look and the convenience of sliding the whole case off to easily access all components. I can see a slew of PC case makers copying the subframe and sliding case design.
