Running Mojave 10.14.6, when I try to import a CD into iTunes, I get the error:

'Error occurred while converting the file "xxxxxxx". An unknown error occurred (-54).'

Conversion does not begin before the error message appears. It wasn't doing this before. I have installed all the OS X security updates. I looked up error code 54 and it seems to relate to a fix whereby one organises the library. I tried this and it didn't help. The iTunes library itself plays fine. Any ideas please? Could it be I hae a locked file? Most of the library is from ripped CDs not digital download. Everything plays ok in iTunes.

I suggest you create a fresh user account on your Mac, log into that and try doing the CD import with the newly created account.

If it works that would point to some sort of corruption in your regular login's iTunes preferences. I have no idea how to fix that.

I will point out that I imported three CDs yesterday on my Mojave-powered Mac mini 2018 so this is certainly not a Mojave specific issue. I've been running Mojave since I bought this Mac mini 2018 (maybe two years ago -- it's a refurb from Apple) and have adamantly refused to upgrade to Crapalina or Big Sur.

Try to rip using XLD, if problem persist, probably your CD drive have an issue.

Also, what's format you import to iTunes? is lossy or lossless ALAC?
