Hello, I am trying to ID and hopefully stop Kernel Panics with my K5000 (supposed to be native support in Mojave).

Any help or ideas?

I think I may try a re-install of Mojave and just port over my docs/apps.

Seems to happen when the computer is booted from a period of inactivity, ie. sleep mode.

any help or suggestions are appreciated.
[doublepost=1554316286][/doublepost]Additional: I did look at a crash report, I think it is Adobe that is causing the issue, however, I am not sure how to read or upload the crash reports here at MacRumors...that being said, I have deleted all Adobe files that I can find (I use HitFilm and FCPX, so I don't use any Adobe at this time).

Did you uninstall NVIDIA Web Drivers and CUDA correctly? They are incompatible with Mojave. You are relying on the macOS driver for K5000 Mac Edition in Mojave.

If your GPU is NOT the Mac Edition, it's technically not officially compatible.

If you flashed the GPU (or paid someone else to), there MAY be a different issue. Have seen a few of these recently with non-Authentic K5000's that were flashed behaving poorly. Likely better using the non-EFI version than poorly flashed.

How are you powering GPU?
No issues on COLD start?
Did you try a clean install of Mojave onto a blank/empty SATA SSD or SATA HDD?
What monitor(s) do you have connected and via what ports?

It is a flashed card.
It was a carbon clone if ordinal drive (so I might try clean install in the NVMe drive, or go back to high Sierra)

I’m using two monitors via display port, one hdmi to display the other vga to display port.

Cold starts seem normal but upon wake that I’ve experienced these issues.

The GPU is powered via one 6pin cord, no other powers save pci lane itself.

To my best knowledge and search, there are no other Nvidia drivers.

I’m thinking a clean install might be best.

I contacted the seller of the card and waiting to hear if he has any solutions or trouble shooting.

In System Report > Software > Extensions, sort by name and scroll down to NVDAG. If any of those say "Web" at the end, NVIDIA Web Drivers are still installed. You can disable from startup, but better to uninstall completely.

Some DP converter adapters have been funky with Mojave. Believe it's related to HDCP protections. Straight DP>mDP are fine. If you can eliminate converters or go to another monitor source, see if that helps.

I did not see the Web drivers but these.

Those are the NVIDIA drivers built into macOS for Fermi and Kepler (above the blue line). Nothing wrong with them and they should be there.

thanks, I'll still play the wait-n-see...I'll try the other options.

There aren’t web drivers for Mojave.

OP:
Do you have a copy of the panic stack?
That will typically give you some insight into why you are panicking.

Correct - no web drivers for Mojave. If they weren’t removed from High Sierra upgrade it can cause startup issue.

How do I find that? I’ve been looking and cannot locate the file

Ok, I think it’s the Nvidia drive but I cannot find it to delete it...see the screen captures for the latest panic.
[doublepost=1554399883][/doublepost]I search in the Library files but I cannot find the NV driver that’s causing the issue...perhaps a fresh install might fix?

I'd recommend you at least try a fresh, clean install onto a blank/empty SATA SSD or SATA HDD to test if there is any difference.

Thanks, may be best option...it’s just odd I can not locate the driver causing issues..

Well yes the panic is certainly related to the GPU. Those are Apple versions of Nvidia kexts for sure. No hint of web driver kexts exist.

I’d test on a clean install of Mojave and if it continues test on a clean install of high Sierra. It’s possible your GPU May be near end of its life.

This is/was a “new” GPU that you hadn’t been using previously, correct?

If the issue persists in High Sierra without NVIDIA Web Drivers installed, it may point to a poorly flashed GPU. You can try to install the Web Drivers to see if they help at all, but figuring out how to return or get your money back may be best solution.

Hopefully clean Mojave fixes your issues.

Just my two cents:

One of my Mac Pros have Mojave 10.14.4 and GTX 680 4GB, same drivers almost the same GPU as yours Quadro K5000, and I’m not having any kernel panics.

Did you checked the northbridge rivets?

Tested your GPU with a PC/another Mac Pro?

I have Win10 on another drive, and when I was in Windows, it seemed fine, but I wasn't in there for that long to test...perhaps, I should again.

I may just go back to High Sierra, but I wanted to be able to boot from my NVMe drive for better speeds.

I have contacted the seller to see what solutions or support that he may have.

I'll take a look at the North Bridge later this weekend and then try even moving the card to the next slot.

High Sierra works nicely with 1xx.0.0.0.0 BootROMs. You can boot from NVMe and have NVIDIA web drivers.

Awesome, my bootROM is 141.0.0.0.0. I'll probably go with High Sierra....I'm still rocking it on my 2010 white MacBook.

As well, the seller said that if I thought the card was the issue, he would take it back....I'm not ready to give up on it yet...as well, do you all think the CPU could be at fault? As it said CPU 5 or so on the panic report?

I highly recommend getting iStat Menus then check your Northbridge temps.
You can also use nuts & bolts instead of the plastic rivets.

On my spare DUAL 4,1 CPU tray I am testing the " Nut & Bolt " technique.
Thus far it's working well.

Nut & Bolt Norhbridge technique ( of course, clean and reapply thermal paste. )

From the Northbridgetop . .

1. M3 bolt ( from memory length 20mm ).
2. 1/2 of a ballpoint pen spring.
Northbridge heatsink top

Northbridge heatsink bottom
3. Non-conductive M3 washer
4. M3 Metal washer
5. M3 nut
6. Me nut = to lock the upper M3 nut at about the same tension that the spring
of a plastic rivet would normally be set at.
( gently pull one of the OK rivets to get a 'feel' for it.

If indeed you have broken rivet ( or rivetS ) this may be interesting https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/cooler-northbridge-on-the-mac-pro-5-1-dual-cpu.2173519/

If you have a SINGLE CPu tray i doubt rivet problems unless your Northbridge has been up above 80 ~ 90°C for an extender period.

========================================

I also suggest that you make a Mac Rumors member .sig file to describe your cMP.
You can see my ".sig" at the bottom of this post it allows MacRumors members to instantly know your cMP setup.

Good luck.

I have iStats, I’ll review the data on the Northbridge...thanks for the suggestion.

... do you all think the CPU could be at fault? As it said CPU 5 or so on the panic report?
I don't.
I only noted CPU 0 in the panic reports that you've shared and this simply says this is the CPU thread / core that was executing something at the time that the panic was observed.
I don't know if you upgraded your CPU to this one or if it was factory option (I don't recall if 5,1 was sold single CPU 3.46GHz and your panic lists your machine as having a single socket system), but considering this is a new to you GPU and a new problem that mentions drivers (kexts) that specifically are for this hardware I'm really leaning on this being a bad GPU.
Maybe you'll get lucky and be able to run High Sierra just fine, but considering the fresh install of Mojave's failure I don't see it being all too likely unless what is killing the card is the stress of 'metal' which to me still says bad GPU.
