Hello,

I was just considering about upgrading the software on my Mac Mini Late 2012 from High Sierra to MacOS Mojave.

I have a few questions to ask, if anyone would be kind enough to reply then it would be really helpful.
1. Will my Mac run faster, smoother, and more efficient being on OS Mojave, or should i keep it on High Sierra?
2. Will all previous softwares be compatible with the new operating system?

Any replies would be appreciated with thanks.

I'm running Mojave on my late 2012 Mac Mini. No problems in terms of smoothness, speed or efficiency here. I use Logic X 10.4.2 and performance has been great. I do have all of the eye candy stuff disabled though, I have Reduce Motion and Transparency Off and have tweaked all the animations via Terminal for them to respond quicker.

As far your second question, it depends on what software you're currently running and their compatibility respectively. You would need to refer to each of the manufacturers to find out whether their software is officially supported or not. Everything I use is working correctly but I don't know which software you use.

Works well. My Mini has a SSD instead of the original hard disk. Fast and responsive.

No problems here -- in fact, I have the same model (mine is a quad) and while it may be a placebo effect it feels like my Mac is reporting MUCH cooler temps with Mojave than with Sierra or HS. It's not even close -- it feels at least 15ºC cooler doing the same stuff.

My only issue is that booting takes a LONG time, sometimes 2-3 minutes, and there is no visual indicator that the boot process is still going, just a blank, black screen for most of it. So it's hard to know whether it's still booting or hung.

As for displays, it is definitely different since I think Mojave's fonts are optimized for 4K displays but it's not bad. I mostly use an eGPU -- a Radeon RX 580 with a Mantiz Venus enclosure -- so I'm definitely capable of 4K even though I'm only running 1080p.

Have you tried doing both a PRAM and SMC reset?

I get the text issue here, but I’m not using a mini. The problem seems to be that Apple stopped using sub pixel text smoothing & and anti-aliasing. It’s a little hard on the eyes for me with small white text in dark mode, but it’s livable until I trplace my monitor.

Any experiences about Mojave vs. El Capitan performance on this machine?

Mojave might be faster than Hight Sierra, but coming from El Capitan, even though it's a fresh install I noticed some screen lag using exposé and system preferences load slower, etc.
I'm still testing it though, but so far I'm inclined to roll back to El Capitan. Although it might be the fresh OS is still building cache, etc., so I wait a few days to let it mature.

Lightroom/Ps performance is also a crucial factor for me, any experiences on that? (I didn't test them yet.)

Hi there, newbie in this site here :)

I finally built some courage to upgrade my Mac-Mini late 2012 with the latest version of Mojave. Everything ran well during the installation with no issues at all. Look and feel seems great !

However, I have been having issues playing videos on the web browsers. So youtube files are not playing and just freeze. I tried other video engines to no avail. The issue seems to occur on both Chrome and Safari. I also checked for updates on Chrome and reset the SMC & NVRAM.

Has any one incurred in any of these issues ? Any ideas or hints on how to address ?

Thank you in advance

Do they load at all? Or do they just keep buffering? Try updating to 10.14.1 (came out today). Does mobile YouTube (m.youtube.com) work?

Late 2013 iMac here, and I've had 48 hours of misery with Mohave. Boot problems, random lockups, can't run First Aid without locking up, lockups in Parallels, issues with network drives not always connecting. Can't enter safe mode, recovery mode works, did the Sram reset, but not Pram. About to hit Time Machine up and roll this POS back.

This is the first time I've had issues upgrading OSX ever (over 15+ years using). Funny thing was I was about to upgrade to a new Pro iMac, but at this point I'm not sure if it's Mohave or my other apps that aren't supported/working.

Edit: Feels like I'm using a buggy Beta release. Even after the 10.14.1 patch

Hi there FNH15, thanks for stepping in. Yes, all video files started from the browser just keep on buffering, including the mobile. As soon as noticed the problems I upgraded to 10.14.1, but the issue doesn't seem to have been addressed. :-(

It's really frustrating....

Thanks for you help

Cheers

Hi there all,

I think I am into something. It looks like the mojave installation resets several configurations and preferences. As soon as I adjusted my sound preferences, voilá...videos files are once again working as before....really odd situation. In the windows world, the video would have probably run with no sound.....go figure :)

So here's my story. I have a 2012 Mac Mini and I just swapped in a new SSD and bumped my memory up to 16GB today. I couldn't create a Mojave USB installer so I came up with a plan to create a El Capitan one, install that and then update to Mojave right after that. Before upgrading to Mojave I decided to play around with El Capitan for a bit and i must admit....El Capitan was FAST. UI was just snappy.

I then did an upgrade to Mojave and no question that El Capitan was snapper. It's not that Mojave is terrible but geez El Capitan was blazingly fast. Im sort of tempted to just wipe the drive again and go back but it's unsupported now.

If I were you, I would create a dual partition and install El Capitan...then You can switch between the two and compare as well as you'll have the best of both worlds.

Good idea. I actually have a 2 TB SSD in that guy.

I upgraded three Mac Mini 2012 i7s with OEM spinner HDs from HS to Mojave and all of them have been running great. :D

I think Mojave seems to run little snappier than HS.

You will want to check the program compatibility list in this forum but all my older programs including MS Office H&B 2011 seems to work fine in Mojave. I did upgrade Parallels from the old version 12 to the latest version 14 before upgrading from HS to Mojave.

I updated my late 2012 Mac mini and immediately found problems. Things started running slowly, then freezing or not responding at all. I play WoT Blitz online and that became unplayable with a dozen different issues. Things like editing in Photos became frustrating and near impossible.

Therefore I reverted to 13.13.6 and things are now running as they should.

[doublepost=1568131535][/doublepost]You do have to run video from Thunderbolt via an adapter. It will then handle a 4k TV just fine. I have three of them running Mojave now.
