As I recall, per last OS update...Server was not directly linked to the OS, like previous versions. So it is possible nothing will change at the first roll out, other than a small bump for compatibility.
OTOH, Apple has warned us that services are going away....we just don't know if it will be a 5 dot release first, or the new, stripped down, perhaps version 6 release, to start fresh with 10.14.
Server will not go away, at least what Apple knows is needed (Profile Manager, etc.) for at least 1-2 OS cycles. They may rebrand it as some sort of MDM or Profile tool.

There is a beta version, and the document above which warns of which services will be removed in Fall 2018 is accurate.
I'm not sure what there is to blog beyond what's already out there regarding the upcoming changes when Apple made the announcement that it was happening. For once, Apple actually made a roadmap pretty clear, even if that map is pretty short.
Would assume private beta is under NDA...if so, have to wait for public beta to hear/see much.
I know most traditional Server users are frustrated/surprised/mad about Apple killing off features (interfaces to features), but I haven't used or been around orgs using Server for anything beyond Profile Manager, NetInstall, File Sharing, and the handy certs tool....for years.
I am in the minority not really caring that they are killing off most of the network tools, as there have been better options (IMHO) for years. Have already moved on, long ago.
I am more interested to see what becomes of Profile Manager and NetBoot/NetInstall, as a low cost MDM option. If they go away, lots of folks will be looking for a way to replace, and commercial options are (mostly) pricey, while open source are typically more technically challenging to setup and run. If/when Apple's basic MDM tools go away, it will leave a pretty good size hole between the two ends: roll-your-own and commercial.

Netboot and Netinstall are dead anyway on any new hardware, so there's not much to see there. The iMac Pro, and almost certainly anything after it, cannot Netboot at all. Anyone still supporting older hardware this way needs to not upgrade their server.

Probably dead eventually as you say, but we have to wait and see.
It will be interesting (and a bit nerve racking) for techs who are used to re-imaging school labs or other large fleets. DEP, as I understand it now, won't be as easy as what folks do now. But as it feels like we are beginning a large transition, and we don't yet know to what.
Even if imaging (as we now know it) is dead, on all new hardware after iMac Pro, not sure that means an Apple MDM is dead. Could be we see new or different tools.
Another possibility (longshot) is that third party tools will in fact allow some form of NetBoot/NetInstall. Too soon to say.
Reminds me a bit of the early days of OS X: There was no easy way to clone a system....and then along came CCC about 10.2 or so. Before that, it was a serious PITA.
