monitor as viewfinder

Does anyone know of an application that will allow me to use the monitor as a viewfinder? Basically what I am looking to do is have my camera set up and while in USB mode allow me to visually see what the camera sees prior to hitting my remote release. I know that with iStopmotion you can do this but I don't want to do this for video but rather portraiture (self portraiture project) and the result would be a still image. I was thinking that Apple's Image Capture app might be able to do it but I don't see a way... any one have any suggestion?

Camera info: D70s, not sure if that will help with suggestions.

Okay so to answer my own question, no. Due to it being an SLR and the CCD not being exposed until the release, no projection can occur. I guess my next question would be if there a way to do an auto transfer so that upon after an image is taken the file gets put up on the screen... this is how iStopmotion works. I think that this is possible, just need to figure out the best application... I still think it is Image Capture, will have to test it out.

Interesting idea, thanks! I wonder if I can go a step further and actually point my iSight through my viewfinder... I noticed that in Corps Bride the rigged a mini camera which ran to a monitor to view through the viewfinder.

Tested it out... put the camera on a tripod and then made a support for my iSight so that it could peer through the viewfinder. The image appears small but by using the zoom feature of osx I am able to blow it up.. this will allow me to compose my image perfectly!
