If I buy USB C to HDMI cables will the output video to a monitor from my 2018 Mac mini?
Or do I have to buy specific thunderbolt cables?

I got a couple of USB C to HDMI cables and they work fine just in case anyone else as wondering the same thing.

You didn't tell us -which- monitor you have.

If it's a 4k display, make sure it's "USB-c to HDMI 2.0" adapter/cable (2.0 is important).

Also, you'll want a "high speed" cable between the adapter and the display (if the adapter cable itself isn't long enough).

But... if the display has a displayport input -- I'd suggest going with a USB-c to displayport cable/adapter.

Ok so I'm having issues with the cables I purchased which were Alogic USV-HDMI, found here https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers...-series-usb-c-to-hdmi-4k-m-m-cable-2m/632006/

Im using them with 2x Acer G236HL 27" monitors. Found here https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/UM.VG6AA.B02

If I turn the mac off the monitors are displaying no cable connected on restart. I currently have a HDMI to HDMI cable to one monitor which seems to have corrected the issue but I would rather get two cables which are fully functional than continue using these.
