I have a late 2012 Mac Mini that needs a monitor. Two candidates - HP pavilion 27q and Dell S2721DS. Both have a resolution of 2560 x 1440 (1440p) but the Dell is at 75 Hz and HP is at 60 Hz.

as per the spec sheet for Mac Mini, it supports 1080p at 60 Hz via HDMI. Based on other posts on Macrumors, it can support 1440p at 60 Hz via the mini display port.

my question is will it support 1440p at 75 Hz via the mini display port.

thanks

I can't answer the question re 60 v 75hz.

But... something else you should consider:
Will you be happy with the size of text displayed at "normal font sizes" on a 27" display running 1440p?

Pixel size (dot pitch) on a 27" 1440p display is .2335mm.

Pixel size (dot pitch) on a 32" 1440p display is .2767mm.

I got those values from this worksheet:

What pixel size are you using on your CURRENT display...?

If I wanted a 1440p display, I'd pick the 32" size as being a good compromise between pixel size and "text readability". But my eyes are getting older.

I am using a 600 by 900 at 60 Hz.

I am looking for a bigger monitor for my 2012 mini and found this thread. according to the internet, "the late 2012 Mac mini supports up to 2560 x 1600 on Thunderbolt monitors or up to 1920 x 1200 on HDMI monitors."

Right now I am running an ancient 20" Samsung over DVI/HDMI at 1600x1200, but am wanting bigger/more space without breaking the bank. Any recommendations
