monitor issues for rev.C macbook air

hey guys,
i am thinking purchasing 2.13 ssb mackbook air
or the 13inch low end macbook pro

the main concren is the monitor

i have the 13ich macbook pro on hand now, it is from my sister
i feel very good with the display, 9CBD

While I see many posts saying the line issues of the mba

Is that very afftect the monitor?
is it so obvious?

i dun want to spend much more money to get the computer of worse display

It's been stated by those who do "see lines" that probably 95% of the buyers do not notice any lines at all. If you read all the posts by the 'line seeing people' you'll learn that they aren't even sure themselves they can see lines all the time.

So, DO NOT work yourself up about this, the line issue got blown way out of proportion by a select few here, do not let that hamper your decision. You will love your MBA like the other 95% of us do, and there's a 95% chance you'll see no lines, worth the gamble if you ask me

It's too bad, "line paranoia" and the excessive threads about it on this forum are probably deterring potential MBA from buying their "dream machine", very unfortunate, imo they're cheated out of what could of been an amazing experience owning one of the nicest notebooks on the market today.

While it is somewhat true, but those people without lines don't really get how disappointed it is to see a defective display all the time buying the premium from Apple that is not fixable, nor Apple would want to fix so far. (Thus excessive amount of threads and posts.) Take it for granted that people satisfied don't come and post everyday, but the opposite want to look for any clues and let go of disapointment making noises. But the reality is, it's probably worth the gamble. In fact I'm more concerned about yellowish display than lines, lines don't bother (in my case) but yellow dull color sucks compared to vivid white.

well i received my MBA rev:C 2,13ghz a couple a days ago and i did not have any lines, but the display is kinda yellowish and really looks like crap, if i compare it to my MBA rev:A 1,8ghz SSD model, the display on the REV:A is so much better!

plus the performance boost on the new isn't that big! it's only 5-7 sec. faster by boot up and 1 sec. faster by launching apps. don't know if that justifies the money that u have to pay for a REV:C, i'm very close of selling my REV:C again due to the cheap quality of the display! plus the battery does not last 5 hours as advertised, it's pretty much the same with the rev:A around 3:40 hours max 4 hours if u lower the brightness.

if u don't plan to play games or do heavy picture editing, i suggest u get yourself a nice REV:A with SSD. i know a lot of people say it has core shut downs and heating issue, but honestly I haven't had any of those yet on my REV:A

Interesting... I had yellowish with no lines rev A, vivid with lines rev C... And difference is just like you described. Launching app might've become from 1 sec to 0.7sec and for the record, I timed the boot up time (up until the login screen appears) and rev A/SSD being 35 seconds, rev C/SSD was 29 seconds.

For your case, rev A display swap seems like a savior, but only if you're sure about doing that. At the worst, you will brick both with no warrant left.

And as for rev A, if you install CoolBook, core shutdown will be permanently solved. (I just don't get that many people are not aware of this solution?)

My rev:B had lines but also extremely uneven backlighting. The colors were too warm (i.e., yellowish white) no matter how I calibrated it. The display just generally looked bad. Even when compared to a poor-quality unibody MacBook display, everyone agreed the MBA screen looked worse. That's why I passed on the rev:C since they are using the same display panels as before.

A lot of people are satisfied with the current MBA displays and that's fine. More power to them, but I'm extremely picky about display quality and just couldn't stand the MBA display. It's the one part of the machine that I have to use 100% of the time so it needs to be great.

Totally agree, except my rev C gave me good colors. So I guess it all comes down to luck of having lines/no lines, white/yellow... I would like dicing if it's free.

while i am a huge MBA fan (and owner of a Rev A) I went to buy my Rev C only to see these really bad lines. I did manage to go all over town to find a Rev B that had lines (most of the demo units I've seen in the stores are all Rev A still), it was not nearly as bad as a Rev C. My point is... ask to see it, before you buy it... if it doesn't bother you, then it's not that bad.

For me, when 6 out of 6 people can see it (three being employees and the owner) and we all agree that it's unacceptable on two fresh Rev C... it's depressing because I actually want to upgrade my MBA (my Rev A will be sold in the morning) and I really don't want anything other than a MBA
