Along with wrestling with the decision to get either an Apple or a Dell 23" display, I'm also trying to decide whether to buy it this week (so I can write it off my taxes) or wait until January and see if there are any announcements regarding new models, cheaper prices, etc.

Does anyone here have any ideas, inside scoop, or feelings on the matter?

Thanks.

If you want a good price, get the Dell 2405FPW. It's less than Apple's 23" Cinema display and just as good. And even if Apple did lower their prices on the Cinemas (which I doubt), they still won't be as inexpensive as the Dell displays if you're able to get one when Dell has one of their crazy sales. I've seen the Dell 2405FPW go as low as $780.

I've been looking at the Dell as well and I'm afraid I've missed out on those crazy deals -- one was going on earlier this month. Does anyone know if you bug them they will give me the deal?

I use a 19" Dell at work and it's not bad (though that black border can quickly become an eyesore). I know that the 20" Apple and Dell's have the same guts. Does that hold true for the 23" as well?

1. ACD = 23'', Dell = 24'' (one inch bigger)
2. No question; price/performance value = Dell all the way. Hands down.
3. Agree w/Sw1tcher, even if Apple does drop their prices on the ACD, it still won't even come close to the Dell price.

A little off topic but I'm trying to decide between the dell 20" and the 24".

For me price is the only real issue, I'm a student. I can afford both but the 24" being nearly twice the price is a bit more of a stretch for me.

Mostly I'm going to be using it for working of large spreadsheets and side by side documents and I like to watch the odd HDTV rip of of stargate.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not the 20" is "big enough" or will I be craving 4 more inches?

I love my 24" Dell, very glad that I made the decision to go with that one. THe ONLY drawback was that I had the Dell 20" previously and the USB ports were on the right side of the monitor so I could plug my mighty mouse directly in (*right handed). On the 24" they are on the left, interesting choice to move the ports over...
