Monitor vertical line issue with Lion OS

I have a Dell 2407FWP monitor w/my machine 2011, and Lion 10.7.2.. From time to time a get a thin vertical line (top to bottom) on the left side of the monitor that remains for a few minutes, than disappears. I tried to re-attach the DVI cable from the monitor or the HDMI adaptor end, but this does not help.

Anyone with same ? Is the monitor going bad or its just the connection ?

It most certainly is the monitor. Happened to me, too (different monitor of course). You'll probably see more lines coming out and stick there in the near future.

Thank you LostSoul80. Monitor is older so that was my thinking to, but not 100%. Thinking of the Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24-inch.

Vertical stripes usually mean LCD failure (could be some loose connections mostly), but in some cases it can be repaired. You'll probably be able to use it as normal for some time (even several months, if not years) if you can stand the lines.

That said, I can't tell the monitor is to blame for sure. Have you installed new RAM modules recently, or do you experience the stripe to happen when the Mac is overheating?

Ram was installed a few months back, but unknown if this issue was before or after the installation.

Tried a few different cables both DVI/HDMI adaptor. Same issues

No overheating. Only shows itself (thin vertical line) at first start up, than goes away a few minutes later.

Ordered a new monitor from Dell (Ultrasharp U2412m) on sale and hope its the current monitor that is 4 1/2 yrs old, or I'll have a new back up

By any chance did you go into the on screen menu and in to the Preset Mode, and go to the Gamma tab and change the PC to Mac? See photo......Just curious.......

No, but I did just now iMac Mini, to see what happens. Goodness, if this was the issue, I can beat my head against the wall . Thanks for the suggestion. Will give this a test to see what happens and report back here later.

Edited: 6:45 PM---9 hours later and thus far no issues to report. Noticed twice a day prior to this update

I had the same issue on my Dell 2408 FWP with a new 13" Air. Today the line seems to have permanently disappeared after I installed Lion 10.7.3 and I also did the pram reboot and let the chime ring four (4) times then reset the resolution, rebooted and reset resolution back to the original resolution, as suggested elsewhere on this forum.

Sorry to hear that Gator Bob. I just dumped my 2407 and got a U2412M and no issues to report. Wish my 4 yr old Dell worked a few years longer and have heard that the vertical line problem is not uncommon on Dell monitors.
