Mono sound from MacBook Air

I recently upgraded to the new MacBook Air and began having problems with hearing music in mono through Bluetooth headphones (both Airpods Pro and and also Bose QC35). This is fixed temporarily by changing Sound > Input to Internal (instead of the paired BT headphones). That said:

- I never had this happen before on other Macs
- Input seems to default back to the paired BT headphone
- What if I also want to use the BT headphone mic when I have it paired to the Mac?

Same problem (AirPods Pro + MacBook Pro). Noticed it over the last few days. Using them for Google Meet in Chrome. But as soon as I play music, I notice how bad the sound quality is.
