I have a 16 inch 2019 Macbook Pro and because of a lack of external ports besides Thunderbolt, have been using a Hub for peripherals such as a back up HDD and a USB2.0 Apple Air DVD player in the past. After an Upgrade to Monterey 12.01, everything worked just fine, except for the DVD player. The player connects to the Hub, is recognized but an error message asking to connect to a USB port on the Mac. Not possible, because there are no USB ports. Thinking the issue might be with the DVD player, It was successfully checked out on two other Macs with USB ports. Thinking the issue might be with the Hub, I ordered a new one with a dedicated USB 2.0 Port. Same issues. The Systems Report indicates the DVD player is recognized, but that's it. The DVD will no longer load, let alone transfer data to the MacBook Pro. A little bit of digging indicated this is a KNOWN issue by Apple. I hope they address it quickly, because without being able to load data, via a CD or DVD, I have an expensive brick. In the meantime BEWARE of upgrades to Monterey if you use any device that doesn't have a Thunderbolt connector and you wish to connect via a Hub

What's a USB2.0 Apple Air DVD player? Do you mean an Apple USB SuperDrive?

Why not do as the message says and connect it directly to a USB port on the Mac? You'll need a USB type C to Type A adapter, either a single solid adapter or a flexible adapter.

Most of these claim support for USB 3.0 but you just need USB 2.0 support.

I wonder if there's any adapters that claim USB 3.1 gen 2 support? I suppose some of the USB 3.0 adapters will work at 10 Gbps.

That is a DVD player Apple sold with USB 2.0 about 5 years ago. Still works on a super slow iMac with USB port, so not the issue.
I had hoped the installation would work without issues. I've ordered an appropriate USB 3 to Thunderbolt adapter. It just takes several days to get here. But thanks for the suggestion.
