I installed 12.2 last night and today my LG external monitor connected to my M1 14” MacBook Pro is blacking out for about 5 seconds once or twice an hour. Anyone else having this issue? I use the Apple AV USB C to HDMI/USB connector. Was solid until today.

I have had this happen a few times with my LG 27 5k, but since it also seems to happen with my extrenal drives, I attributed it to very over sensitive cables or plugs. If you even breath on my TB plugs they disconnect and then come back on. New high end switched out cables didn't matter. So it may not be the cables at all, but it seems like it is.

Same problem with my M1 MB Air with LG HRD DQDH external monitor: monitor switches off after 3 seconds if it is used as the only screen and does not come on again. Happened after I installed 12.2. Using the USB C cable provided with the screen to connect to MB Air.

Im also facing issues with my external 38" LG 38WN95C-W display after upgrading to 12.2. First of all macOS completely forgot my my desktop layout after upgrading so I had to set it all up again in displays. Now, whenever I wake my M1 Pro from sleep the external display mirrors my mac display for a few seconds and then flickers for a bit before working.

It was totally flawless with 12.1

WTF Apple....

I have a Dell 32", one USB-C cable connection for power, display, USB. Was running all fine on 12.0.1 on a MBP M1 Max.

Needed to update because I was constantly "running out of application memory" with 32GB of RAM....

After the update to 12.2, zero recognition of my display and USB over the USB-C Cable, power still comes thru. Restarted the mac, restarted the monitor, nothing.

Plugged in thru HDMI, now its working, but I have to go buy a USB adapter to plug my keyboard in. Guessing they've changed something in the update thats not checking the USB-C port properly.

😡😡😡

Same issue here, 3rd monitor connected to my Mac Pro vis USB-C, worked fine before 12.3, now the screen is not recognized. Connected it via HDMI and it works fine.

Today i had the same problem - flickering from time to time with longer blackouts (seconds). I also had an error message from the monitor claiming something about 120hz are not supported (it is only able to display 60hz). After reconnecting the display, it worked again.

Is there a resolution to it? I have tried two external monitors - my normal Benq one and my partner's sophisticated curved monitor which I sometimes borrow. Both flicker and are useless. Where can you change the hertz? Thanks for any advice.

Has anyone solved this? I did try using a mini HDMI from a USB C dongle w/ HDMI - and I get a signal (but it's not as good as it was with just the single cable).. I'm on 12.3 it seems it's still a problem.

I rang the Apple support and they guy was helpful but basically said to try and turn the macbook off, then wait a few seconds, then turn it on again (yep, that one!) and connect the monitor. That worked for a couple of hours then it started flickering again. I really don't want to have to buy a $2000 AUD apple monitor.

Go to settings and monitor. There you can change monitorsettings for each connected Monitor. Select the monitor you want and if you do not see the option to change refresh rate (hz) you have to deselect „standard“ in resolution settings to scaled. You don’t have to actually use a scaled resolution but now you can change hz settings. My system is in german language, so wording might differ slightly.

C'mon Apple, does Covid-19 affects your software quality to the customer?
Been experiencing this to not be able connected to any monitors before and this is the second time and no explanation from your Apple Team for how to solve this?

I had this problem with my 2021 MacBook Pro and an external USB-C 4k monitor. I tried getting one of the USB-C short cables and it helped but I still had the problem from time to time though it wasn't that often. My solution was to get two used iMacs and just use the laptop as a laptop. The iMacs never have flickers or black screens. I have had black screens from my M1 mini as well - that was running Big Sur.

ugh is this still an issue? i was on the 12.2 beta and things were so bad i was convinced my computer or monitor was a lemon. but then i rolled back to 12.1 and i haven't had a single connectivity issue since. we shouldn't be having to choose between basic functionality and keeping our software up to date. :(

Just updated my 2022 16" M1 Max to Monterey 12.2.1 and only one of my LG 27" 4K (set to 60Hz) displays is detected on USB, and that's only after power cycling the monitor a few times! Pretty crap for a £6,000 laptop
Displays both work fine connected by USB-C to my DELL laptop!

Mac Mini 2018 + LG 5K. Same here since I first upgraded to Monterey. Sometimes it comes back on with misaligned pixels (about 1/3 of the screen in the center shifts up by a noticeable several pixels. resulting in jagged lines etc.)

Come on, apple, this is your very apple-approved TB3-only LG monitor.

Also. as another user noted, the 0.5-meter cable that the monitor came with did become ridiculously oversensitive - you fumble around the mini's back and barely touch it - the display goes dark for several seconds - a replacement TB cable fixed that.

I swapped out the 0,5 meter cable that came with the monitor for a $20 Aliexpress TB4 one - and the touchy-feely cable problem got solved. Random blackouts do continue uninterrupted, though.

Weirdly enough, I thought I'd give the cable the last chance before trashing it by connecting an external USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 (non-TB) SSD enclosure - no issues or disconnects despite some purposed pulling and bending.

Any news/fixes here in the meantime ? I have the same issue with my MacBook Pro M1 and a 31,5" Dell Screen connected via HDMI cable.
Screen will turn black every now and then for a couple of seconds.

I have fixed the "NO Signal" "Back Screen" problem after updating to Monterey 12.3 using USB-C on my 27" 4K LG non Apple screen.

Press the button at the bottom of the screen and select Settings, General and then DisplayPort Version.

It was on 1.4 and when I moved it to 1.2 my Mac OS desktop suddenly became visible.

I'm going to try this on my Windows monitor as I have the black screen problem there.

Yep, its BS....

I had ZERO issues for me on OS 12.1, but after I updated to 12.2 and 12.3 -> no charging, no video over USB-C and no data over USB-C from my Dell 3219.

I bought this monitor for a 1 cable solution, and now I have 3 that I have to plug in and out all the time. MBP M1 MAX as well.

Also at home on my Eve Spectrum, getting the intermittent drop outs like everyone else.
