Hey, guys!

I started noticings that my battery drain had become enormous while laptop was in sleep mode! I closed the lid in the evening and opened it at noon - 50% was gone without any reason! Battery status checking shows that the charge should be 100% or 97%, but not 55%!

Before sleep, I closed all the apps that could drain the battery and turned off bluetooth mouse.

Specs: MBP 16 (2019) / i9 / 16 RAM / 5500 4Gb / 1Tb
OS: Monterey 12.3.1

Any advice?

I have also noticed more battery drain when sleeping than one should expect on my MBP 2017.

I thought it was because of worn battery, but when reading your post I'm not so sure anymore.

I guess, that the Bluetooth issue is not fixed completely. I have found a few similar issues posts on Reddit, where folks complain that BT devices prevent laptops from sleep mode.

A few tests confirm my assumptions:

Device: Keychron K1 keyboard (BT)

Laptop A - MBP 15 (2015)
Laptop B - MBP 16 (2019)

Results:
Laptop A > Lid closed > Keyboard was disconnected.
Laptop B > Lid closed > Keyboard was still connected (I managed to play a song with the lid closed notebook)

I assume that BT is awaking the laptop and it drains its battery. I will turn off BT module and see what happens.

Hey, folks.

Further internet investigation confirmed that it is still a mass experience issue (despite Apple's statement that 12.3 has fixed BT bug) + I have done the first experiment - shutdown BT before putting my mac into sleep mode. Results were expected - 0% of the battery was drained.

In this case, I can recommend to try out Bluesnooze - this app is shutdown BT when lid is closed and turns on, when you open your lid up.

On the other hand - I performed SMC reset procedure. I'm not believing much in it, but going to leave laptop with BT enabled this night, and let's see what happens.

Unfortunately the installation instructions says this:

  • Please note this app is not compatible with the “Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac” feature.
Bummer.

Hey guys.

It seems SMC reset works (wow! who might think...). I left my Mac with BT on (but keyboard/mouse were disconnected, coz they clearly prevented the sleep, according to logs.) with heavy apps launched (FinalCut with an opened project). By the morning I received the same 100% that I left! 😀

Hope my experiments help to debug your case!
