Monterey double click

Hi does anyone has issues clicking or double clicking a document to open it?
It's s the only thing I notice so far that doesn't work like it should, everything else works.
if I need to open a document I have to right click on it then click open on the menu.

mouse or trackpad? try changing settings (in system prefs), ie tracking speed for the trackpad... or. see if that gets things back in order. and have you rebooted since this started?

Double clicking works just fine for me using both the trackpad and my Magic Mouse. What are you using when attempting to double click?

Yes. Like you said. But....

Reboot fixed it for me.

Whilst beta3 is an advance of beta2, there do seem to be a few little odd things in beta3 which weren't there in beta2.

Specifically, in Finder some double-clicks (with mouse) or double-taps (on Trackpad) are ignored when trying to open a file. I have played around with the click speed settings to no avail. This issue only seems to affect opening files, as double-clicks within other applications register properly.

Edit: I figured out what's going on in my case. After opening a file in Finder, Finder is no longer in focus, so I have to click to make Finder in focus and then double-click to open a file. (I have three displays, with a display dedicated to Finder. Files do not open on the same display as Finder.) I am certain this behavior did not exist in Big Sur.

Here’s what I find: I have to double-click each file TWICE to make it open. After that, once is enough for that particular file. I can reliably reproduce that.

After so many update releases. Now we are at 12.3.1, but the problem still persists.

I sure wish someone would tell Craig Federighi's team to lay-off rolling-out new OS's every year that none of us want and none of us asked for, and instead spend a year, or maybe even two, concentrating on nothing more than making MacOS 12 and iOS / iPadOS 15 reliable and solid.

Totally Agree. I find nowadays macOS has become so buggy, that we don't even care about its small design glitches. I also think Apple design team is seemingly heading to a strange direction, which is a mix of "we know what we are doing" and "give customers what they want, not matter the cost". I wish they can bring Jone Ive back, but I doubt he want to.

Glad to see the back of him tbh. He was the main architect of the 'thin and minimalist at any cost' design philosophy which bred a generation of unreliable impractical laptops which looked nice.

Jony was a form over function artistic nut case. I'm glad he went. They need to get rid of Craig Federighi now. His software teams have screwed up all the OSes really bad.

BTW, I just started experiencing the click and double-click issues yesterday running 12.3.1. I installed 12.3.1 when it was released, so not sure why it took so long for me to notice this issue. I'm using a Logitech MX Anywhere 2 mouse.

Had similar problem, with an Apple Trackpad, not the newest but new enough. But I might upgrade that as I did with the Keyboard to my brand new MacStudio, if this persist. Silicon optimized is probably better.
Anyway, over the years I've learned to not waste a lot of time on trouble that often fix itself, more or less along the line.

The files became possible to open quite soon, but not attached disks.
Open a finder window, and go that way to open the stuff works too.

Thought I might be losing my mind and then came across this thread. I do a fair bit of highlighting various words/files in Finder/TextEdit/Terminal with double-click and since upgrading to Monterey (directly to 12.4) I encounter this bug constantly on a 2015 MBP.

I have this problem too. I guess a lot of people do. I'm on an iMac running 12.5.1
I thought it was a focus issue too, but nope. I've got to double click twice to get files to open.

I find the problem has become more severe since 12.5. I wonder, are they even aware of this issue?

I posted this back in December of last year. It still happens, no matter how new the Mac and no matter how new the OS. For example, my current two Macs are an M2 Air and a Studio. Both running 12.6. Do others agree with me that after double clicking a file twice, you only have to double click it once to make it open? I wish I could bring it to the attention of someone at Apple. How? If some of you will chime in and say that your behavior is like what I see, I'll have a go at reporting it.

Apple moving towards transparent everything. This was a problem for years back in Finder's transparent icons. You had to click on the solid part of an icon to get the click to register. Irritating.
Instead of fixing it, the problem expanded to text names of files. If you doubleclicked in the space between letters it would do nothing. I believe that is what you are discussing here.

And now it's expanded to all text documents, as of Ventura. If you happen to click the space between letters it doesn't even register and the word is not selected. Moving the pointer slightly allows you to click the letter because the space between is transparent. And when the letter is selected another click (tap) selects the word. I am finding these transparent letters to be the worst part of the M1 Mac. It afflicts this very editing box in Safari.

Side click, open, works fine for me now. Not too time consuming.
Sure double click icons/disks would be even better.

I'm also on Ventura, and sometimes I feel the problem still exists.
