In Big Sur Preview, PDFs would always open in tabs within one window. Now in Monterey, every PDF opens in a separate window, regardless of my System Preferences setting for tabs.

- In System Preferences > General I have Prefer Tabs set to always
- In Preview Preferences I have Images > When opening files, open all files in one window (though I don't think this influences PDFs)

I have two accounts in this machine and I get the same results in both. I see the same thing on another Monterey machine. Any ideas?

EDIT: Original post deleted

Sorry, was confusing the Preview image opening preference settings with the System Preference settings. I can confirm that Preview is opening IMAGES correctly per the Preview settings, but NOT PDFs as per the System Preferences settings.

I actually prefer NOT to open PDFs in tabs, but they definitely need to fix this. Makes me wonder what all the beta users and developers were doing that this is just now being caught!

This sounds like a simple bug, then. Let's look forward to 12.1.

Yeah, it is definitely still an issue with 12.0.1

Hope they fix it soon.

This type of dysfunction should not have made it past QA
