mooing macbook yay!!!

Well I was starting to write an essay rough draft on my brand new macbook and it started to moo...it wasn't horribly loud but it was definitely there. Anyways I just reset the PMU and it has been quiet so far...if the problem persists I guess I will be contacting applecare this week. According to my serial number my white macbook is from week 30. Despite the moo I am still really happy with my macbook that is replacing my 12" powerbook . There has been no other noise besides the moo (whine etc), and I guess time will tell if I get any discoloration on the case.

4H630 the two digits (in bold) are the week number supposedly

Damnit, resetting the PMU didn't fix the mooing problem. Would it be better to call applecare or should I just take it into an apple store? The turn-around time might be faster if I took it into an apple store, but what if I wasn't able to get the macbook to moo and the person at the store thinks im wacko? Any suggestions?

just take it to your apple store. say its been making whining noises and you want a replacement.

how often does it moo? OR, does it moo when you do a certain task?

It moos fairly often, sometimes 3-5 moos in a set, and a set of moos every 20 seconds or so, during light to medium workloads. I only have camino, mail, ichat, itunes, and pages open.

I just installed the widget from http://www.moofix.com/index.html and it seems to have stopped the mooing. The mooing didnt stop immediately after activating the widget, so who knows if it's really working or if my macbook is just behaving right now, but for the moment it is quiet. While some other threads have mentioned the possibility of the actual fan (and its particular manufacturer) being the culprit, I wonder if apple will ever release some sort of software fix for the macbook moo. If this moofix widget continues to do its job I think I might just live with my macbook for now, since I love it so much. I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of sending it away to get fixed and stuff

Any ideas what temperature the moo kicks in at? I use Temperature Monitor Lite in the menubar and it starts at 65C.

Interestingly, if I have no external drives plugged in it runs lite stuff at around 56-58C, so no moo. If I put my LaCie Firewire HD in, it runs at exactly 65C I recently picked up an external Freecom USB HD and with that plugged in it stays around 61C. No need to ask which is my main external drive

The guy who runs that moofix website says that the moo starts between about 65 and 67 degrees Celsius.

I have to say the moofix is fairly impressive. I've been listening to my machine moo incessantly for the past hour or so and it has been driving me crazy. The moofix seems to do the job. However, it is clearly a hack and something better needs to be be done.

I reset the PMU on my macbook last night but it didn't fix the moo at all.
