Wow, nice images at shots taken at ISO5000 is not bad, non photographers will unlikely able to see the noise.

Dang you got beautiful shots, where do you learn this stuffs?

Oh yea, and it look so solid!

P.S: Try taking same subject at different ISOs, dont need to zoom or anything, just take the same subject in the same lighting. I want to see the different in quality as the ISO increases. Im interested to see how it compare with Nikon D700 (that is what the 5D is meant to compete against right?). Thanks, just interested :)

Can we see a 100% crop of all images posted above shot at ISO5000 and up please?
I can shoot at 3200 and downsize to something more web-friendly resulting in pretty nice looking shots with virtually no noise. A 100% crop however of that same image isn't nearly as nice ... if you catch my drift.

not sure if these are exactly 100% crops, but they're up close and should give you an idea. no NR or anything like that done, just cropped straight out of camera.

Are you coming JPG out of the camera or are you coming RAW, and if so what processor are you using?

Awesome.

Keep in mind that 100% crops are misleading. You're talking about a 21MP image, so a 100% crop is EXTREMELY tiny. In real-world terms (i.e. viewing a print at normal viewing distance or viewing a jpg on the web), the noise in this ISO6400 shot will be virtually non-existent (as it is in the original images you posted).

This is truly remarkable. Yes, there is noise in the ISO6400 shot vs. the ISO200 shot, but we're talking about 5 (FIVE!!!) stops here. That's the difference between a sharp 1/250s and a completely useless 1/8s @ 200mm. I can deal with this amount of noise; I can't deal with unsharp shots.

That said, the 5DII is priced beyond what I can swing; it's a used 5D for me (which is still a HUGE step from my 10D)

these were taken in sRAW, converted to DNG using Adobe's converter, then converted to jpegs in ACR

Yeah, In real world terms, I doubt the noise is noticeable (unless you are looking for the noise) at ISO6400, if Im not mistaken the 5D is able to shoot beyond 6400 right? How bad is it above 6400?

I hate to be the 'party pooper', but the images at ISO5000 are far too noisy for my tastes. But here's the thing: it's ISO frickin' 5000. Wow! Just having the option to use it is a good thing - even if they are too noisy.

Great shots! You did a good job showcasing what the camera could do, and what you could do! Although, do I detect a bit of barreling in the first picture? (I love that one, by the way.)

It's like a quote I saw from one website, which was itself borrowed: It doesn't really matter what a talking dog says, it's that it talks at all.

What used to be in the realms of fantasy (or just the best of the best) is now within the reach of anyone who owns a 5D II or D3, or other similar camera.

Well you are not a party pooper lol, like I mentioned earlier, in our eyes there is a lot of noise but in the eyes of normal people, they will think its cause of the sky or something, and will never think its cause of the ISO unless they know something bout cameras.

But there is still a lot of detail (as long as you dont zoom in!!) at the bird flying pic. Still very usable, as long as the picture size is not bigger or something.

Yeah its amazing at ISO5000. (Oh yea, noob question, I dont recall any ISO 5000 in the 5D, isn't the range around ISO 50 (LO), ISO 100, ISO 200, ISO 400, ISO 800, ISO 1600, ISO 3200 and ISO 6400, ISO 12800 (H1) and ISO 25600 (H2)? I know boosted ISO will never look nice but for the sake of numbers, It would be nice to see the same pic taken at boosted ISO, haha)

i think it's a given there will be noise. but just like you said, it's ISO 5000. with any proper NR software you are gaining quite a few stops and will come out with very clean images. it also depends on what you shoot.

Wow, didn't knew it had that many ISOs. I always thought the ISO number is double of the previous one.

So it seems that noise is not really noticeable as long as the image is not enlarged or something. Haha, its amazing the photo still look very usable at ISO5000 :).

I wonder if Canon will ever make/add more AF points to the 5D, and the 5D AF points gap is smaller then its lower brothers the 50D and lower.

It is usually selectable in the menu of most nicer cameras whether the ISO sensitivity increments are in 1EV, 1/2EV, or 1/3EV stops.

"Standard ISO" Is 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, ect..

So just like shutter speed and aperature values, we use 1/2 and 1/3 stops to allow for better adjustment when it comes to sensor sensitivity.

Oh I didn't knew that, I always wondered why some pics got ISO5000 like that
