More Harddrive Troubles :[

Well, I''l start with yesterday. Last night my computer completely locked up twice, so i rebooted both times it seemd to work more or less ok but itunes would play a little, than stop. I went to bed and woke up tih smorning, it locked up more or less immediatly. I restarted and opened itunes, it came up with an error saying my music was "damaged." I opened itunes and manually dragged al my music in, it worked fine. Than i opened safari and it kept crashing. I verifid and repaired permissions and everything was ok. I decided id need to clean install my operating system, but my exernal harddrive was hooked up to my sisters mini as i had just, a few days ago, replaced er harddrive so i had copied everything onto that replcced it and copied it back. I brought it to my computer and used superduper ereased everthing on it and it started to ocopy, after 70mb the copy fails. What can i do? All my work, my art, etc Everything is on my macbooks hardrive. I usualy have everyhngg backed up onto my external but i needed it for the mini, and that is of course when i get problems.

Any ideas as to what i can do?

Can you manually try to copy just your files? I'd rather try to salvage that data than have it all with SuperDuper.

Start with the important stuff and go down from there.

Thanks however I tried that and i got error messages saying one or more files could not be copied, or such and such a file could not be read and it wouldnt work. (That iswhen id say try to copy my entire document folder, however when i go through and just nabbed the ones i really needed it worked, same for music however some of the folders I get that error with almost all of the files. Any other ideas?

Also im guessing this is a software issue, and a system restore should fix it. Could it be hardware, and a new harddrive would sort it out?

Sounds like a dying harddrive. I had the same problem with my old Powerbook. Had the harddrive replaced under Applecare. Is yours still under warranty?

I"ve had to do it file by file too - but I just had a corrupted drive. If the folder had a corrupted item in it - i couldn't do the whole folder at once. HAd to find that ONE file that had the problem.

I"d keep trying & snagging what you need, i haven't had a drive fail so i can't attest to that side of the symptoms.

I"ve reached paranoia state lately - lol, i have 4 externals with various things duplicated on all of them

I truly wish you good luck with this - it's a sick, sick feeling....

Yes, i stil lhave my one year warranty, however i live a whiel away from any apple stores, so id have them send me a box i am however past my 90 days of phone support so id have to pay the $50, the diagnose it and see if it software (Im sure theyd have e reinstall the os) and if that does fix it well im put $50. I had a very similiar problem, however i backed up, and it seemd to work fine, i reintalled my poerating system, and brought back the bare minumum
