I've read the previous posts relating to this and just wanted to check I understood correctly.

My primary AppleID is my my work email address. I also have a mobileme account.

When signing up for iCloud, if I don't use my mobileme account I'll lose that, right? So really I want to use my me.com address as my iCloud address but at the same time keep my non-me.com address as my primary AppleID.

Is that possible? What I'm not clear is should I sign up to iCloud twice, once to transition my me.com address and once for my primary AppleID?

This looks like it's the answer to the first part..?

If I use different accounts for iTunes and MobileMe, can I merge them into a single account and use it with iCloud?

No. You cannot merge two accounts into one. However, you will be able to move your MobileMe account (yourname@me.com) to iCloud and, if you choose, you can continue to use a different iTunes account for store purchases and iTunes in the Cloud.

ok, I've been trying to figure this out too. I have <myname>@me.com which has been handy... and I suspect I want to keep it or the icloud version.

so, when iCloud asks me to link to I use myname@me.com for that?

Btw: me.com email from Mail doesn't seem to be working. I suspect it is just an issue with my Mac but not sure (credentials -- which, of course, haven't changed)

thx

Service has been very spotty over the past few days. Which makes sense, considering the changeover that is undoubtedly going on on the Apple side.
