more iCloud storage?

I don't think they will, but they've more or less lost me to Google for all "cloud" services.
This is pushing me pretty hard towards returning to Android, for better integration of all the Google free stuff.
It's not that I can't afford Apple cloud. It is that I like the peace of mind knowing that the Google storage is always there, no matter what happens. Apple requires recurring payments, and who knows what might happen in the future that could get in the way of those payments happening.

they should at least make the backup of the phone unlimited (maybe w/ photos) to keep everything actually save! literally everyone in my family keeps complaining about "some message popping up saying storage is full but the phone isnt) so they havent made a back up in months!
I think there is a storage update coming. There will likely be a storage bump to the iOS devices next year (as 4K takes off more) so I can see Apple either increasing the free iCloud tier to 10 GB or offering 5 GB per device (as they should have done from the beginning).
im not quite sure about it. it is apple after all - if they can sell enough their storage plans, why would they offer more for free? anyway, they should offer 5gb storage for each of your device linked to the same appleID. 5gb isnt even enough for backups when owning more than one a-device...
And why should they give unlimited backups for free? Do the math on the costs associated with giving free unlimited backups to every iOS device out there.
Actually, I've found that camera roll asside, 5 GB is plenty for several devices. My iPhone and iPad use ~250 MB each before the camera roll. My GF has had her iPhone 5 for 18 months now and only just hit the limit, so I can surmise that Apple intends for people to either transfer their photos to a computer for storage every year or so or for them to pay for additional storage.

well google can do it so can apple. plus backups w/ photos can barely be more than 10gb. the pop up is confusing ppl left and right. there r so many ppl i troubleshoot that keep calling me asking all confused why their 64GB iPhone keeps telling them it is running out of space when its actually just the iCloud storage. plus the annoying iOS update that kerps on auto downloading with ppl never having enough room to actually install it
at least make it 16gb device - 5gb

well for example my ipad takes almost 2gb, iphone takes about 700mb (and they are only backups). photos/files are saved to my nas and backed up to another drive...

Apple's sole purpose is to make money. Why give away something for free, especially something that could cost it millions of dollars, when people will pay for it, and the lack of it being free isn't stopping people from buying their phones.
I think that they will eventually have to cave and offer more base storage to users. 5GB simply isn't enough these days. If you look at the overall consensus there are a lot of average non power users that are having low iCloud storage messages and are having to either delete their data or pay for more. I would consider myself a power user and currently have the 1TB plan. I would love to use other services such as google or dropbox. Those services are great but they still don't have the system level tie ins that iCloud drive has.
No they are doing it wrong. I have two 128 Gig iOS devices.
128 Gigs of cloud backup space should come with each device. Charge me extra at the time of purchase if necessary, but that is the only way to insure and ensure the seamless experience that Apple used to be known for.
If I lose or break my phone or iPod or even my MacBook, I should be able to go to the Apple Store, buy a new one, suck my perfect backup out of iCloud and be exactly where I was before.
Every freaking time.
Subscription model pisses people off. Charge up front. I don't care what BS they teach in Bschool.
You're a little late to be complaining about subscription models. They are here to stay.

They have subscriptions for Google Drive space, subscriptions for Google Play, etc. What do they think otherwise about?

I just dragged all of my old devices and hard drives into Chome and suddenly 15 years of photos were all neatly organized and instantly always accessible.
Stuff I thought I had lost years ago suddenly reappeared. Google Photos is Magic.

Free, for a price, which is compression. The free version is not good for a true backup.

Microsoft still leads the business market, how many major businesses use Apple software or hardware for that matter? The company I work for employs almost 30K , not an apple product in site. I don't believe being desperate to be relevant has anything to do with it. And as much cash Apple has, I sure don't support reasons why they don't offer more complimentary cloud storage to the general user.
