More iMac questions

Hi all - still exploring my new iMac and have two more questions:

1. I realized that when I start the webcam, my face is really grainy. By grainy, I am talking about ISO 1600 or above on a standard Canon DSLR. My guess is that this is due to where I place the iMac (backlit). And that the lack of light leads to such high ISO?

2. I have iPhoto and iMovie and Garageband all preinstalled on the system. But I see that they are also selling the programs on the app store for about 15 bucks each. Are they different? Or just for those with older iMacs without these programs installed?

3. This one is going to cause a little more controversy, but what's your default photo editting program? Aperture or Lightroom or CS?

1. If you properly light your face (desk lamp) the grainyness will go away or at least lower down to acceptable levels.

2. Yes, they are for older Macs, as iLife '11 has been released late last year.

3. Lightroom in conjunction with PS.

1. if you are talking about facetime video it looks like crap. ichat video looks better. I did google talk video yesterday and it looks great. Same as my logitech HD webcam I have on my PC.

3. depends on a person's needs. Most professional photographers prefer lightroom over aperture. And nearly all use photoshop as well.

If a person has it on their system from the factory wouldn't it say Installed on the Mac App store like the IOS App store does?

One would hope so. But it doesn't.

Also - I find it hard to believe that Aperture costs only 80 bucks on the app store and the boxed version has a list price of 200.

Are we really paying a premium of 120 dollars to get a physical copy?

What am I missing here??
