I've been using Blender 3D for a while and have learned it well enough (video), but am frustrated with how un-Maclike it feels and difficult it is to do certain tasks. Of the available Mac 3D modelers that I can actually afford (e.g. as far under $1,000 as possible) which do you find the best, and to offer the most Maclike experience?

Modo 401 from Luxology. Not very far from your kilobuck ceiling but it's COOL

I should also add that making it easier to model architecture such as a house and various objects of varying complexity within it is a plus...

Really disliking Lightwave (using 8.0). Maybe its because I'm still a bit new but I really do hate using it.

Wow, I hadn't heard of either Modo or Silo to be honest. Cheetah3D seems a bit limiting, but Modo and Silo both seem like they deserve further research. Some of the Blender folks seem to think that Modo could be a serious threat to the community.

If you're just looking for a modeler, there's bonzai3d from autodesys (the makers of established high end modeler app, FormZ). Great interface. You can download a free fully functional version that works for a month. The only thing is, its only at version 1 at the moment. It costs around USD500.

But for a more fully featured app, modo is great and still within your price range.

I'd also recommend ElectricImage Animation System, but its v2 modeler is still in alpha and they don't sell their v1 modeler anymore (though it was a good one).

I vote Cinema 4D. The interface is not native, but is incredibly intuitive and makes great use of mouse buttons/the wheel as well as the keyboard. It's not too expensive if you avoid the modules you don't need, and recent versions have BodyPaint built-in.

I've done a house-modelling project with C4D which handled it well, after some hassle getting plans from AutoCAD files (C4D will import AutoCAD but I had files that were too old to import directly). If you can afford the Sketch and Toon module it'll output great sketch and paint-type renderings.
