These two machines have similar performance and Price difference is not important.

I am trying to choose the machine that will be more quiet (fans won't kick in)

I don't do video encoding, just some light photoshop, but what I DO is run safari, brave, chrome, edge, firefox, opera 24/7 with multiple tabs in each on THREE 4k displays. (plus other regular apps, discords, emails etc)

I'm currently using 2018 intel mac mini, and usually, it gets really hot and fans stay on for hours.

eg right now, this is my memory usage (which is why I want to get 64GB)

what do you think? could the 14in MBP be quieter? ... i could even go with the 16in, i don't want the fans to kick in during my use.

Better off with the 16", been told fans stay off a lot of the time while the studio is always on.

For your workflows, I think the M1 Pro is enough. I have the 16'' M1 Pro and the fan is off basically all the time.

I returned a Studio for noise reasons. I also have a 14 MacBook Pro and have never heard the fans.
Thx for sharing that, is your 14 MBP a M1 pro or M1 max?

have you tried connecting to multiple 4k monitors? and a bunch of browser open tabs?

I have a studio M1 max 64GB/1TB coming this week, BUT i am seriously considering to return ordering MBP 14, M1max 64GB/1TB, damn thing is estimated first week of may though :(

I just need to figure out if 3 monitors and many browsers tabs ... using up over 32gb ram after a few days, if MBP 14 would still stay quiet

I have the 16GB 8 core M1 Pro. That version has the fewest cores and it doesn't need fans as often. See Max Tech reviews.

I just ran 2 4k displays along with the internal display all with a 4k YouTube video running. At the same time I compiled some code in Intelij. The fans did not come on.

I suspect that portability and the size of the display will make more difference than noise levels (despite what you might read in this forum).

You get 14 days in most countries to try an Apple product, and can then return it. Check with Apple support or sales about your being able to return it, with all its packaging, no questions asked. So try one, return it, try the other choice.

Obviously you pay a premium for a notebook. The Studios larger number of ports might be a benefit as well.
