I just received my new Mac Pro with 8 cores. Yummi!!! Fastest machine I've ever worked on...

A tip: I use 4x500 GB Sata disks in raid0 for my system drive. It was a little difficult to install OSX. I had to boot from the DVD, use Disk Util to create the raid, AND then reboot, to have the option of selecting the raid for OSX install. Runs like a charm. About 250 MB/s, and that makes everything load extremely fast :) Careful though! Turn on Time Machine, because your doomed to have a disk failure, at some time, with 4 disks in raid0 ;)

Now to my question:

Is there any way to have VMvare Fusion, run on more than 2 cores, let's say 4? I use the machine for extreme rendering (3D stills at 20.000x20.000 pixels 16bit), and two or four cores extra in XP x64 would make a major difference. Even though XP x64 runs perfectly in Fusion, it's not possible to install as a Boot Camp partition, so that's not a solution

Thanks in advance,

EDBBOB

PS. Did I mention that I also received a 30" ACD? If you work with HD video that's a magnificent display. A full HD image to work on, and screen estate left for the UI. What more could you ask? (Doesn't really do it for 4K RED cam material though ;))

You should be able to just go into the settings for your VM and select '4 virtual processors' instead of '2 virtual processors'.
