More Than 2 Monitors on Powermac G5

Hello all,

I've got a dual 2GHz Powermac G5 with an ATI video card (in the AGP slot) with two cinema displays connected (one DVI and one Apple interface). Is it possible to add another video card (PCI or PCI-X) and have a third display operational? Does anyone make a video card that is not AGP that is compatible with the G5? Thanks in advance!

You can get an ATI 9200 or 9000 i believe for PCI and run another monitor (or two) i think

Depends on your PMG5. If you have the lower-end G5 (for each of the REV's) which had 3 PCI slots you can pick up an ATi 9000 or 9200. Mid-to-high level PM's during their revisions had only 3 PCI-X slots. You might benefit from the faster bus of a PCI-X card though when it come to extending to a third display (is this even possible in OSX?). I don't think ATi makes PCI-X cards, but I know Nvidia does for Macs.

Find out which rev PMG5 you're using first before dropping your cash. THIS will help you out.

Couldn't you just get an AGP card with a dual-link DVI and a normal DVI out?

Split the Dual-Link for two displays and use the remaining DVI for the last one. You won't lose Quartz Extreme or Core Image support.

they are more pricey than their PCI-X/AGP non-dual link counterparts. MY question is, could you split pixels to THREE 20' (or, hell, even 23") ACD's? Maybe an X850? or a GF6600 of 6800?
