I have mistakenly made 3 Apple Ids over the many years of owning multiple computers and iphones. I've just stuck with 2 but one comes up as a gmail.com address. This worked for a few years but now it says that it isn't a proper Apple Id, so I made another one so that I could just kind of start over. But after recently getting a new phone and it not updating the apps that I bought through the gmail ID, I'm at a loss trying to get to that account. Any ideas??

? i have gmail address as my AppleID

try iforgot.apple.com , and see what comes up. Your not going to reset., But just to see if the ID is valid.

Otherwise u may have to give Apple a call.

When I try to reset, it says that the gmail address is not a valid Apple ID. I'm going to have to go to the Genius at the Apple Store. :(

For many years Apple, and others, did not use verification as part of the registration process. That is, after picking foo@foo.com as your Apple ID, you have to go to your inbox and click on the link, verifying that you actually own this email account. So it may be that you think you own this, but you don't. Or, it may be that you in fact own this, but someone else used it first. If the latter, you can take a few steps and make it yours again. Best to call Apple Support to walk you through it.
