so I was watching the macworld keynote (again) and noticed that when steve was talking about widgets he says,

"we have widgets, starting out with weather and stocks"
:D

look forward to new widgets!

I'd like to see that movie times and trailer widget that's been demoed for Leopard show up on the iPhone.

in that context, starting with means with "i am starting out by showing you these widgets"

^ watch the keynote and pay attention to that part before you talk about context.
he doesn't talk about the widgets first.
he starts talking about mail first (when he gets to the internet part)
widgets were just stuck in the middle of everything.
he clearly meant there would be more widgets to come!

EDIT: it starts at about 35 minutes into it...

thats obvious.. we all know that.

or you really think iphone will be locked all the way with STOCKS , NOTES , WEATHER.. i dont need stocks at all.. its just a matter of time until he unlock the iphone and let us decide what we want no what they want us to have on the iphone home screen.

and have a LOT of topics already talking about this.
we all know they are coming, the biggest problem is: WHEN ! and how long gonna take..

Imagine the iPhone once Leopard launches!

I think mail will get upgraded to match Leopard's mail with stationary and better iCal integration. I'm hoping Apple will develop more competitive Office apps and make iPhone versions! iPhone 2.0 will probably have iChat video conferencing (crossing fingers).

of course there are more widgets to come, but his words there are not confirmation of that.

consulting my crystal ball........

It's pretty (or very) obvious that rolling out widgets is going to be a constant thing (and a fun thing i would think) as Apple has sort of commited itself when they decided to nix third party apps.

Also, there are plenty of great widgets that I imagine we will see converted.

questions remain:

Will Apple charge?
if they do how much?
Will they roll out more than one at a time?
Will we see all of the widgets that exist for the Mac ported to iPhone?

and lastly,

When TF is this going to happen?

I suggest we make the remainder of this thread a list of widgets you would like to see

Note( don't bother with a dedicated widget wish list that you want Apple to see ,and then act on, as Apple doesn't see this forum in that capacity...Apple management might hear of outstanding issues repeated over and over in the forums but I wouldn't think they would respnd to issues like this) just my 2c

Hang on... Widgets in normal OS X (on your Mac) are just web apps really so cant you just get the .html or .htm they use (that Steve said when Tiger was first launched could be used on Safari) and host it somewhere then just point the iPhones browser to it? Just a thought.
