What do you think are the most common circumstances where a phone gets dropped?

I have a sleeve cushioned with felt. If the most vulnerable time is when the phone comes out or in our pockets then the sleeve is in effect as protective as my RhinoShield CrashGuard bumper which protects the phone all the time. Using the phone naked is more pleasurable than when using it with the bumpers. Plus the bumpers are slicker than a naked phone. Also a naked phone is easier to handle because it’s smaller than one with bumpers or a case.

When do you find yourself dropping your phone by accident? When you’re using it? When you’re picking it up or putting it down?

1. Removing it from the pocket / thinking you're putting it in your pocket.
2. Getting out of the car with it on your lap
3. Fumbling with things getting into the house with your phone

other random stuff as well but the first three is the most common i've seen. I wear a case out of the house but at home i use it with out a case.

Anything that involves a transfer of the device from one place to another. Your chances of a drop are significantly more if you are also preoccupied and distracted.

I once cracked a screen getting in the car after having pulled my phone out of my back pocket. At the time my brain was foggy from Benadryl (preoccupied and distracted) so when a loud noise went off next to my car I was startled. That caused me to drop the phone.

But hey, the glass screen protector didn't get a scratch on it! :(

Agree with transferring your device. I’ve said it numerous times before on here but again, I don’t understand the non casers. I work for one of the huge shipping companies and I move freight from hub to hub so I go many places all the time. I can’t tell you how many ganked up, smashed up uncased phones I see charging in the break rooms. The ones that look like utter never have a case on them. Just makes me shake my head.

I think part of it depends on your job. If I was still working for UPS (or a job like yours), I'd use a case. But I've had office jobs since 1999 so I am a non-case user.

When I walk down the road and fall over with phone in hand, as I was not paying attention, too busy reading MacRumors.com foru... [THUNK]
