I have a 2017 imac with 512 gigs of internal storage. I have a 10tb external 7200 rpm HDD and a 2tb external SSD, both through thunderbolt.

I've read some conflicting things on where to store the base files and where the cache should be. Am I best to keep the files on the HDD and the cache seperate on the SSD? Or should I keep everything on the SSD? I do a lot of noise reduction and effects towards the end of the projects, is that impacted at all by where things are stored? Thanks so much!!

I would keep "project(s) in progress" on my boot (internal) drive, if possible.

Move completed projects (both source files and output) to external drives. No reason for them to "clog up" the boot drive.

If a project's source files are too large to fit on the boot drive, use an external SSD dedicated to that purpose.
