What do you guys vote as the most popular/best ipod ever? And why?

Id say the iPod video 5th gen, or the ipod mini / iPod Nano 2nd gen. were the best. Some may argue the 5th gen had all the scratching issues, but I feel it was very solid. The Mini / Nano is simply a tank and if you dont have a large music collecting is simply bliss.

My favorite all around iPod is the 2nd Generation Touch. If I'm just carrying around music w/o video's, I take my 160GB Classic.

I've owned all of the regular iPods since the third gen and I think that the 5th is the best. I give the video on the iPod credit for really getting me to "buy in" to the iPod ecosystem. With the video, I started ripping DVDs and TV shows to carry around with me... which led me to re-rip them when I wanted to watch better quality ones... which then made the Apple TV make sense because I already was accustomed to using h.264 (... but then had to re-rip everything all over again). I like the classic because it's not plastic anymore, but there wasn't really anything as substantial as video that was added to it to really make it that much different.

I completely agree.

What was the 5.5 gen? I have one of the 5th gen ones and was wondering what the difference with the 5.5 is.

*Figured it out. I think mine is the 5 and not the 5.5.

The Mini

Perfect size and weight. Solid aluminum chassis.

Easily USER replaced parts from batteries to screens.

Future-proof CompactFlash card connection allowing 32GB+ storage.

Battery life (if fresh and upgraded) of days.

Might not have color, might not be able to play games or videos, but its the BEST music player ever.

YES. Absolute tank of a player, and I loved the belt clip. And it just seems to be the perfect size as well - I've never liked how thin the nano is.
