Most Powerful Mac Pro Graphics Card

Hi guys,
I got my MP 2.8 Quad last week with stock config. The games are brilliant with the 5770. HOWEVER... me being me, i want to upgrade the graphics card already to future proof myself more (battlefield 3, and 4 and 5 ).

I've seen a lot of threads about the graphics cards on here, but i need to know:

- What is the most powerful card which can be used in the Mac Pro WITHOUT extra cables/ peripherals.

- Do any of the 69XX cards work in the Mac Pro? Which ones and how? Cables?

- Would there be space for a 2nd card insertion if the first was a 69XX?

Oh, and it is fine if the card works only under Windows, as long as there is enough space to keep the 5770 under Mac.

I'd suggest waiting if it plays games to your liking now. I believe the best so far is a flashed 5970, which is a pain from what I have heard. The best that is easy to do is the 5870. I'd keep the 5770 until apple releases new cards that are better and compatible with OS X.

Why is the 5970 hard to install?
Also, i noticed apples price for the 5870 is ridiculous (like AU$600). Does a normal 5870 work with SL natively?

Apple make slow progress with new cards.

The current range of GFX upgrades for Mac Pro in OS X is very limited. 5870 is the highest spec card "officially" supported for Mac Pro.
Some intrepid souls are using Windows build 6870 cards with hacked drivers in OS X, they do work but with limitations.

Apple have just released iMac models with new generation mobility GFX cards: e.g. 6970M 2GB as an option.

The future, with Lion being released fairly soon, looks to contain 6xxx series GFX cards so hold on with the upgrading till it arrives.
