I'm looking for a push notifier for gmail that is reliable. I need the alerts, and customizable sounds would be a plus.

Suggestions?

PushMail came out with an update yesterday that made it much more useful. You might want to check that one out. For it to work, you do have to set your gmail account to forward a copy of all messages to an address associated with your PushMail account. The service does not retain anything once it sends notice to your iPhone. It works well.

Gmail itself has offered push notifications since a week or so ago. I haven't tried that, but it would be worth a try since it is free. Directions for setting it up for the iPhone are on the Gmail web site.

pushgmail is really nice at .99

for more then just gmail, AOL, hotmail. Mail Notifier is awesome!

as far as Gmail pushing through googlesync(exchange) I find it not as fast, little heavier on the battry, and no preview bubble.

Gmail itself doesn't actually offer push notifications - it just pushes the email to your phone. You don't get any kind of pop-up on your screen when you get an email.

No, but you get your "new mail" notification, which i more than enough for me. I'm finding Google's Exchange mail pretty good at the moment, especially as it's free. Not noticed any significant drain on battery either. I've got MobileMe and Google on push and a couple of POP accounts on fetch and the addition of Google made no difference.

Mail Notifier - sometimes works. I'll keep it for hotmail. The badge count is wrong.

Gpush - Haven't tried it, as it requires 3.1 software.

PushMail - Hasn't worked at all.

LetMeKnow - occassionally works.

Pushgmail - it's been very fast and reliable so far, I just wish it had more sounds to choose from.

Ahh that's right, GPush now requires 3.1... what a dumb move. I am still on the first release of GPush.

you guys dont use the stock mail.app and just add your gmail account to it? it has push and its pretty fast. why use another app when you can consolidate all your emails in 1 app? just wondering..

setting up gmail with thier push feature works great. i get emails the second it hits my e-mail. also shows red badge showing that i have a new e-mail.

why spend money

why spend money
I spent money because the account I most want notifications for won't work with Mail.app, nor will it push. (Lotus Notes - ugh, but no choice.) But I can forward a copy and get notice immediately that mail has arrived. With the latest PushMail I can either look at the first few lines of messages that are forwarded, or I can go to Lotus iNotes to pick up the full message. Not perfect, but as close as is currently possible for Lotus Notes on the iPhone.

The new version of PushMail really is first rate.

For my Gmail and a couple of POP accounts, fetch is fast enough for me. If Lotus Notes could integrate with Mail.app and do the same, that would be fine.

Pushmail You can use multiple accounts by forwarding emails to it, also you setup filters as why would you want to be notified for every email? Also more secure. Its a lot more reliable than any other ones, lets not forget the Gpush feck ups when it first came out and Pushmail was the best then also.

EDIT: The new version 2.0 has made it unmissable, check out the features here!

1. Its still in beta, so the service can be up and down (which it is).
2. You can only use one Google account.
3. Battery drain is remarkable
4. You can't check sent mail not from your phone.
5. Emails only go as far back as 28 days or so. If your looking for that old email..not gonna happen.

:D

+1 for pushmail. Solid as a rick and great developer support.
