I don't know why this device is not getting the press it deserves. I got one for 199 and it came with like 30 dollars worth of play store money and I finally got around to getting it up and running.

This thing blows the doors off any cheap china Android sticks you can get off eBay and actually its the fastest hardware out right now and don't think even next years chips will catch it in terms of gaming and gpu power it has.

There is absolutely zero,I mean zero lag or studder.I tried my hardest to push this thing and it just laughs at what ever I through at it.

I got it up and running and first thing I did was unlock the bootloader and install a cm rom and got rid of the oem firmware.I will install some emulaters during the week and get back to you guys.

I think this thing has like 300 gpu cores and is a 4k ready beast for gaming.

Just to give you a base line on how powerful its gpu is the gs6 scores like 28fps Manhattan gfx bench and this thing scores like 65fps.I just hit 111fps trex and the a9 rumored numbers are 66fps trex and those are 35% faster numbers than the current a8!

Are you referring to the NVidia Shield Android TV?

Yeah I will on my break from work.if you plan on getting it it is an absolute must to unlock the bootloader and go pure Android.

The stupid stock firmware has a special app store and there is like nothing in there.you need to side load all your apps and they won't show up on main launcher and you need to find the apks in file explorer to launch them.

After running pure Android the device is hands down the best media player.

I have kodi/xmbc and all the media apps installed and love it now

Wow, I didn't know you can do all that! Great to hear theres development for this device.

Question: does the app store offer HBO Go?

SO with the Apple TV announcement, will people begin to start getting this device?

It might not be a problem in the US, but I think outside the US a big problem with most of the streaming devices is lack of support for local country content.

In the UK, the only ones that almost have a full complement of UK-based apps/channels are Roku and Samsung's smart TV platform.

Apple TV (3rd gen), Android TV, Chromecast, and Amazon Fire all fall well short.

I was hoping that UK services would support Android TV app store, but this does not seem to have happened.

I think there's a better chance the Apple TV app store will be supported by everyone so I expect I'll be getting the new Apple TV.

What would you expect Apple TV to support in the UK bar what is already available though?

The catch up TV services for all the UK terrestrial channels are missing: BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, and Demand 5. For me, this is the major limitation of Apple TV in the UK. All of these apps are on Roku & Samsung Smart TV.

I would also hope that Amazon adds Prime Instant Video to the Apple TV app store, although this isn't crucial for it to interest me.

With pure Android on the shield you can run what ever you want.

I have kodi running scorpian rom and have so much content.

It's unlocked and free this way to run what ever you want.

Do you have universal search?

For me, this is (or can soon become) a key feature of designed-for-tv operating systems.

Some apps won't show up because of the device name.when I get a chance I will edit the build prop to mimic a gs6 or a Samsung tablet.

You can also easily side load the apks from Google search too

I just installed BBC iPlayer from Google search.it won't show up in play store because it doesn't know what device I have.

Either way I got it up and running but need to leave for work.

I tried a few streams and says content is not available. Do I need an account to sign in?

You shouldn't do.

Account isn't needed but it will probably be geo-blocking content if you're outside UK.

I'm not sure you're responding to what I mean by universal search

http://techcrunch.com/2012/10/29/roku-universal-search/
http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/2/9247227/apple-tv-universal-search-report

This is becoming a standard feature of designed-for-TV operating systems (Roku, New Apple TV, Android TV).

But, as far as I know, it's not a feature of regular Android. So this is a limitation of using regular Android for a TV-connected streaming box.

Yeah I have no need for that.we are in different pages.I'm talking about opening up the device to run not 100% legal apps and using xbmc/kodi to install custom roms that have so much paid content for free its not even funny.

HBO ppv basically anything you want.I watched the new movie southpaw last night in bluray quality with no subtitles and that movie is still in the movie theaters.

I also get to watch all the soccer games from Europe lol.

I could care less about roku haha
