Motif Calendar - Photos on date squares

I am creating a calendar using Motif. Before when this was inbuilt to Photos, I have places small photos on the date squares, usually where the start of the next month is previewed at the end space of the current month.

I have tried this using Motif and it is repeating the placed image on the date on the next month. Is there a way to prevent this? I don't want it on the next months space as I like to leave the space blank so it can be written on. When placed at the end of the previous month, this space is less likely to be written on so is fine with an image there.

Any ideas?
