Moto phones, are they any good?

I guess I'm getting old but alot of stuff I don't care about anymore.

I just want something with

FLAT SCREEN
Good battery life
SD card probably and wireless charging...

I never see Moto phones talked about on here, I'm guessing it's 10 pages back already like HTC phones lol so I wanna know if anyone had one before and what do you think about them?

Good phone for just basic everyday usage without the thrills since it can't compete at all with the big boys?

I think the problem with Moto phones is between Samsung, Pixel, and OnePlus, there isn't a ton of room for them.

Moto G and E series are very popular bang for the buck and the software experience is very close to stock Android with standard Google apps updatable through Google Play Store. They're also better at supporting VoLTE and WIFI calling than other manufacturers in the same price range. Moto phones have dropped into the bargain market and are arguably the best in the sub $200-$300 range. Any more expensive than that and you're better off looking at something from OnePlus.

Sure, they might be tempting if you only look at expensive phones from a Samsung or Google, but when you compare them to phones from Xiaomi, Realme, or Honor, Motorola just don’t have any selling point anymore. And forget about updates, Lenovo just don’t care anymore.

If you want a good valued phone, but are allergic to Chinese brands, get Nokia instead. Nokia at least embraces Android One for all their phones, and their phones get updates as current as the Pixel phones. The only Android One phone from Moto is the Moto X4.

My GF uses a Moto Z Force Droid which has been pretty reliable, but it's not even two years old and already the screen has a massive amount of burn-in. Still, I think most of them are alright, I was tempted by the Moto X4 for a while before I got my LG V30.

That's just not true. The Moto X4 and G6 are widely regarded in the top 2 or 3 best budget smartphones.

My close to moto is first Moto g5 plus and later moto z2 force experience in about 15 months. It is good for basic use, as for wireless charging does not have the luxury, you have to buy extra gadget such as Mod. Battery power is decent enough.
Coming from iphone it was a great and pleasant experience, then using Samsung did give me even better feel, battery life is poor though.

Moto X4 is highly regarded because it’s Android One as I already mentioned. Meanwhile, Nokia offers all their lineup as Android One with varying price points. Nokia wins, Moto is a has been.

Oh, the Motorola One? SD625 for $400? Is Motorola kidding itself? When Pocophone F1 can offer SD845 for $300, these other Chinese OEMs (yes, Motorola is Chinese Lenovo) just look pathetic.

The G7 looks pretty nice actually. I had a Moto Z play that was fine (excellent WiFi and LTE), I just wasn’t ready for Android (Do not want to root the phone to get my movies on board).

And that phone was fugly.

However, that was 2016.

I’d take another look if the G7 line is released in the States.

Nokia is ok, at least for the Nokia 6.1, since it's on the list of supported VoLTE and WIFI calling devices but it's a $200+ device. They don't have anything that competes under $200. That's where Moto is competitive due to wider availability and lower prices. For general use, navigation, browsing, consumption and light gaming a lot of people don't need more than a Moto E4 which has been as low as $40 with a $2 SIM unlock code. Moto is still a major player at <$200.

Lenovo has no direction for Motorola. If you look at their lineup, Motorola doesn’t even have a flagship anymore. It’s sad actually.

I have a Moto X4 Android One version that I use occasionally and I really like it. The battery life seems really good and it charges fast. I wish it was slightly faster but for the price I paid I really can’t complain. If you can get it for <$200 I would recommend it. Also go for the 4GB ram / 64GB storage version.

C'mon now, for $249 I wouldn't hesitate to get the z4 64 GB with 4 Gigs of ram. That's what I'm planning on when Samsung prices themselves out of my range and they have no half off deals. As long as you know it isn't a top of the line phone then its a no brainier and I don't need top of the line for something I keep 2 years tops. I'm just not much of a stock Android guy and I'm not getting OS updates on Samsung either.

As for Nokia, those phones are mostly international versions(for the higher end ones) and arent even on 8.0 and the ones that are dont work with some USA carriers so their use for me for example is non existing on TMobile and for those on a CDMA network. The only Nokias that work in the USA and sold in the USA are the lower end versions, that at least i wouldnt want.
For you to keep pushing these, you must not live in the USA and you are giving out vague information about them as if they all will work in the USA.

Ok, but most people on this forum are from the USA and if you are going to keep saying Nokia is better than Motorola, then is it too much to add that the higher end Nokia phones are international versions and don't work in the USA? That kinda makes them useless and a waste of money if I'm in the USA. That would be nice to know.

Saw two Nokia phones in Best Buy today. The 7.1 & 8.1. both looked nice but think the 8.1 is the only Android one. 7.1 was $179 and the 8.1 was I think $299. Don't have the best specs but not the worst either.
Both were updated to Android Pie 9.0 in December. So there is now another cheaper choice than Motorola. Never seen a Nokia in a store til today.

I think any Nokia/HMD Global device ending in .1 is part of the Android One program. I have the Nokia 5 (after being impatient and rendering my Nokia 3 unusable, trying to install Oreo 8.1) and it's just received an update to Android Pie.

For £90 it isn't too bad a phone, the performance isn't Earth shattering but it's pure Android, bar a few features reserved for the Pixel phone, and the fingerprint reader is much faster than Apple.
