Motorola Atrix = LOL!!!!

So I went into an ATT store today and they had the Atrix and it's laptop cradle thing on display so I figured I'd take a look at it. So the idea of it I think OS brilliant but there are a couple problems...

#1 - it doesn't scale everything too nicely. Some stuff seemed out of proportion compared to evberythig else.

#2 - more importantly, it has a horrible delay. When you click on something it takes literally 1-2 seconds for a response. I simply closed a browser window and it took 2 full seconds to ask me if it should close it. And then when I clicked on "yes" it took another 1-2 seconds to close it. So 3-4 seconds just to close a browser window. It was like this for everything though!!!

This is why I love apple. They wouldn't introduce something like the antrix unless they had it done right. I bet the anthrax isn't available any longer after 2-4 months.

I never really saw the point of the Atrix. Maybe someone somewhere has a use for it but it seems like more of just a toy. Its very very limited. I'd rather carry a netbook or an ultraportable like the 11 inch air and a phone vs the Atrix and its computer thing. Its a neat idea though.

The concept is pretty good, however, the fine-tuning and actual product could be way off. I agree with the OP though, this is why Apple is up top. If it isn't ready, it's not coming out.

Ignore the demo units. They're crippled. I also thought the lapdock sucked when I tried it in the store.
I own an Atrix and it's fast.
They're also easier to hack than an iPhone.
We've already have the tether check bypassed.
Free native hotspot and tethering.

Is this subjective or is there data to back this up? Last time I JB my phone it was oh.. two button clicks and I was done? Unless of course this one does it with one.....

Demo units generally are over used and have god knows what done to them by people so they often times have things screwed up on them.

As for rooting the phone that is pretty easy to do. Already several 1 click root kicks out there and the updates do not tend to stop roots.
Once you are rooted it is as easy as installing the app that gives you the wifi teathering.

difference is iPhone is pretty much locked down. No real options to customize anything. Apps are much more walled in everything about the phone is locked down so no memory leaks of any type can develop.
That goes big time when you have things like what the Atrix can do that push the limits of the hardware and software. It opens the door to a full powered OS but as such full powered OS on more limited hardware will have a lot more issues crop up.

well it is easy to hack.
The only hack I know of for the iPhone requires Green Posion which ONLY works on OSX. If you are on windows it require a far amount more work and when ever Apple updates anything it takes a while for a new hack
Compare that to the Atrix that one click roots that work with Windows, Linux and OSX. On top of that update release new roots are often times complete before the wide release is done.

While that makes the geeks happy, for the majority of people, do they really need all that?

Look at how many people actually "customize" their Windows desktop compared to who do. The customizability of Windows as compared to OS X is just talking points for a majority of people.

Similar things could be said regarding the iPhone, except it is more pronounced here. iPhone is a phone. You rely on it to go on the internet to look up things, make calls, text people, and yes, play games. When it becomes unstable because of customizability and/or cutting edge software, you jeopardize it's purpose.

So many people say "The Atrix sucks because the docks aren't that great", while I disagree and love my laptop dock, the phone is phenominal without them. I dont know how I lived in an Apple world without Widgets, live wallpaper, 3D launchers, system freedom, and good notifications. I went Android and will never go back. Also tossed the iPad for the Xoom- another decision Ill never regret, especially after seeing that sorry excuse for an iPad 2.

A as side note, not a single force close, reboot, or error on either device and battery life rocks- even with Widgets out the wazoo.

Telling of what? Extra capabilities in use?

First, one cannot generalize like that to all Android. It depends on the device, the apps and widgets, and what the user has enabled to run.

A device set up and used just like a static iPhone grid with one app at a time, won't get overburdened. Ordinary every day use will not slow it down in the slightest.

OTOH, if a user sets up a lot of widgets to be constantly updating, then sure any device could get sluggish, same as an iOS device that's doing more than one thing at a time. Or it might not, if it's a fast device.

There's no mystery. Either the user has turned on a lot of stuff or they haven't. It's like when people set up a bunch of fetch mail logins on their iPhone and they wonder where their battery goes.

You can get the phone and laptop dock bundle for under $350.
AT&T and Motorola aren't the only people selling these ya know.
And the dock powers/charges the phone when it's docked.
Your iPad can't do that.


As for my "easier to hack" comment.
SuperOneClick is too easy. You can run it from Windows, OSX or Linux.
With Android, you root once and you're done. Updates have no impact to the root.
With my iPhone it was a JB every time an update came out.
It got old real fast.

Agreed.
My wife loves her iPhone... I've completely lost all interest in mine.

The Atrix and the Android platform in general, offer more options/choices in my opinion.
I've tried many phones over the years and the iPhone was a good fit for me for a while, but I've seen the possibilities that Android offers and decided to go that route.
So far I'm pretty happy with that choice.

I tried a WP7 phone for a month, but that platform needs serious help.
They have a great start, but it's still a beta in my opinion.
Tons of potential there and definitely not another "me too" phone.
I may give them another look when version 8 comes out.

I always say the same thing to anyone who asks about my phone choices.
Get what works for you.
Who cares what phone someone else has.
