Motorola to make the Next Nexus phone?

Taylor Wimberly thinks so and he has been very accurate in the past from what I understand. What do you guys think? I'm all for it unless they use an AMOLED screen.

I hope Moto's relationship with Verizon leads to a Nexus. I would love a Nexus but Verizon simply has the best coverage around here. This time I hope Google has the clout to stand up to Verizon, such as Apple does. No carrier branding/software, direct updates, etc. I seriously cannot wait til Google has this influence.

Since motorola is the only manufacturer out there to seriously care about 24 hour battery life in their normal sized phones I'd say:

Same here, i'm really glad we got the Galaxy Nexus back then, i had hopes for the Nexus 4 coming to Verizon but that never happened

As an unlimited lte verizon customer, i am dying for a good clean handset.

I hope so, the Droid X was one of my favorite phones. Outside of the stupid bloat it was one hell of a designed phone. Soft touch rubberized aluminium, that classic overpowered Moto speaker and it just felt good and solid.

From what I hear the new Moto X is fantastic feeling in the hand and Motorola is taking the Apple route of dialing down on making Android feel and look good without spec whoring the internals.

Too bad no one makes a phone out of soft touch rubberized metal anymore.

I'm hoping the next Nexus is a Sony.
Their design language appeals to me and I like how their Xperia line remains in keeping with the pure Android on-screen button layout.

Unfortunately I'm not really expecting it to happen either. Verizon screwed over Google last time pretty badly. What I really want is a functional phone with stock/close to stock Android at Nexus pricing on Verizon with quick to immediate updates without VZ getting in the way. That is why I had high hopes for the Moto X but the pricing fell through. I have a tiny glimmer of hope that a Moto made Nexus would make its way to Verizon, but your probably right that it won't.

Wow this is awesome news if true. If they just upgrade the camera and improve the battery life from my Nexus 4 that will already make it a solid phone.

My only concern is the following fact: the next nexus phone will be cheaper than the Moto X. The Moto X already has fairly mid range specs and a pretty mediocre camera from all reviews. To be cheaper than this and have better specs, the new Nexus phone will have to cut more corners.

If history is any indication the corners that get cut first in Nexus devices are the camera. So I'm guessing the camera will be even worse than the Moto X.

I agree with Moto making it because of their focus on battery life and comfort in the hand. Seems like it would check all the boxes for me. However, death to AMOLED. Lol

Agreed! I like their focus on battery AND a reasonable sized comfortable phone at the same time.

Well, let's go by logic. There is a Motorola phone out right now, one that they need to make a lot of money. This isn't a Samsung that can just throw out a dozen phones a month and see what sticks.

Then we look at the Moto X.

If we get a Motorola Nexus, there are two routes they could go. They could make the Moto X a Nexus down the road, which means hello high price. They wouldn't be seeking that 300-400$ price tag for the different models.

Or they could skimp on the phone, and we could end up with a phone that's pretty much the Galaxy Nexus part 2 with internals.

Neither are good.
