Hi, I have Lion installed and currently app store is downloading Mountain Lion. Can I erase my HDD and reinstall mountain lion to make sure that I get a clean installation of Mountain Lion once its downloaded and installed in the usual way? (I know this can be done in Lion, but don't know about Mountain Lion)

once its downloaded it will prompt you with a "continue" screen, close the installer and install this

once this small program is installed and you have a 8GB USB still on hand plug in the usb stick and run the app, it will create a bootable version of OSX ML

now you can boot your machine and hold the option key, and you will be able to run disk utlility to erase and format your whole drive and install OSX ML clean

Thank you for replying here. Will I be able to erase the disk and re-install the OS after it has been installed in the usual way by the default installer? I don't mind having to re-install the OS two make a clean installation. I just want to make sure that its possible to do once its installed in the normal way.

as far as i know the the only way to do a clean install is from the boot screen which can be done with they steps i provided, once you install using the install file the file will self delete

maybe im not understanding what your trying to do but if you want to wipe your drive completely and be left with nothing but a fresh install of OSX, use my above post
