First off, sorry if someone has already mentioned this. I just saw it and thought it was quite convincing.

Apple only said 'July' for Mountain Lion, but I think they gave another hint with their presentation at WWDC:

See that little Calendar icon? July 17 is a Tuesday, no less, which is (if I remember correctly) usually when they do releases. What do you guys think? Just a coincidence? Discuss!

Interesting, though I can only imagine them using that iCal icon if they were going to announce it too (they wouldn't keep the release date a secret if they knew it). Maybe it was going to be the 17th, so they designed that iCal logo, but then they couldn't guarantee it so they instead announced "July", but forgot to remove the logo… That doesn't mean they won't stick to July 17th, but maybe they weren't sure enough about it?

It does seem strange, Apple generally does use icons like that to represent a meaningful date… I guess we'll have to see, very soon!

The iCal icon has always shown July 17. Check your Applications folder. :)

You're right. I never even noticed that before, in all of my time of going to the applications folder, then again, I rarely use iCal (I mainly use my phone to update my calendar).

Mine says Jul 14, at Lion... as today is July 14. The number in the calendar is in change everyday since a few versions before... The 17 was the default number for the icon in old versions of ical.
