I have downloaded Mountain Lion for Testing before deployment and have come across a few issues with Server.app.

- Can't create an A record for the root level of a primary zone (eg. create primary zone bradtest1.com but it won't let me create an A record without putting in a prefix to the primary zone but I want to create an A record for bradtest1.com itself)

- No place to put aliases for users without Workgroup manager (for virtual email hosting) and it only lets me list one email address per user (tried comma and semicolon separating, with and without spaces). To me this renders virtual hosting pretty much useless.

- Server.app unexpectedly quits EVERY time I try to edit ANY features to do with the user I'm currently logged in as.

- Server.app crashes 50% of the time when trying to add/edit DNS records or edit users.

Anyone else tried it and had these issues or know of workarounds?

If you are a legit developer with access to ML Server you should be posting these questions in the developer area. Since I am bound by NDA I cannot help you, but if you post this question in the developers forum on the Apple developer portal, I'd be glad to help.

Server products need to be evaluated by a hell of a wider user base than just software developers, especially when the user interface has been changed quite a lot. This is why Microsoft release all of their server (or any Windows) products ahead of the release.

I will buy ML server so I'm not a "Pirate", I just need to be familiar with it so I can deploy it as soon as it's out because I'm still on 10.6 and I want to make some significant changes to my setup which will just be easier to do at the same time as a fresh install.

Hi,

You can do both of the things you mention above:

- Can't create an A record for the root level of a primary zone (eg. create primary zone bradtest1.com but it won't let me create an A record without putting in a prefix to the primary zone but I want to create an A record for bradtest1.com itself)

To create an A record for the zone itself, create a machine record for the zone bradtest1.com, and for the hostname, just enter bradtest1.com, and your IP address, and it'll create an A record for bradtest1.com.

- No place to put aliases for users without Workgroup manager (for virtual email hosting) and it only lets me list one email address per user (tried comma and semicolon separating, with and without spaces). To me this renders virtual hosting pretty much useless.

To do this, right-click on a user in Server.app, and select "Advanced Options". Under Aliases, enter the alias you would like. For example, if you have an existing user with brad@bradtest1.com and want to create an alias for bradsmith@bradtest1.com, just enter "bradsmith" in the aliases section. That'll do exactly what you want.
