Does anyone else have problems connecting to windows cifs / smb shares? I am getting the server version is not supported just like when we went through the Lion growing pains. I had to do a work around back then but don't know if there is anything I can do now. Any known fixes?

You using the Parallels fix? For some reason, being in 32-bit mode breaks afp and smb share connections. Switch back to 64-bit mode and they should work.

Both of the processors that the MB 3,1 shipped with (T7300,T7500) are 64-bit capable. Try rebooting while holding down the 6 and 4 keys as soon as you hear the chime. Check System Profiler>Software>64-bit kernel and extension: and see if it says yes.

32-bit mode will not be supported by Mountain Lion so they are likely not going to fix the SMB/AFP sharing issues. If you can't get into 64-bit mode you are, unfortunately, out of luck for shares and you should probably just go back to Lion as the GM of Mountain Lion wont work at all anyways.

I have a similar problem.

I used to connect to the SMB NAS printer server (BlackArmor 110) on which I have my printer connected. Although I can access the disk on the NAS using SMB from my mac, I cannot connect to the Printer using the Workgroup dialog on the add printer menu. Not even the BlackArmor appears under Workgroup. However the rest of my pcs appear there Which shows that there is a small incompatibility with Seagates way of SMB implementation? It used to work flawlesly on Lion! Is there something I forgot to turn on maybe? I did a clean install of mountain Lion but I can't remember ever making a special configuration to use the NAS.

any ideas?

Edit: After waiting for a fix for SMB shares by apple, I installed today 10.8.1 which supposedly fixes the issue with long names in SMB shares. I hoped the problem was the long name of my printer under SMB...

Bad luck... didn't work! DAMN! I'm on ML for 2 months now and can't Print! I mean... it's printing... like the most basic job a computer has to make after "beep"!

Maybe this could be solved if it was possible to connect via IP? However I found no way of doing that!
