Hi,

I just installed a LG WH14NS40 blu ray burner in my Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008). It recognizes the drive, but when I insert a movie BD, it thinks it's a blank disc and asks if I want to burn to it. I have MacGo Mac Blu-ray player but it doesn't see the disc at all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :D

Do you happen to have Windows or another OS on there? If so, see whether it works in there, just to rule out whether it's an issue with the drive itself.

You most definitely should be able to see the files on the disk under OS X, even without any playback software installed.

I see that there is a firmware update on LG's site, later I will attach the drive to a Windows machine and update it, hopefully that will solve the problem. I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

mee gut says you have a dud drive..

let us know how the FW update goes though.

It works!!

After upgrading the firmware from version 1.00 to 1.01, now it recognizes blu ray movies and will play them! I'm glad it was such a simple fix, I was about to rip my hair out. lol :D
