ML is saying I can't install it as the HD isn't Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I checked in Disk Utility, and the Media itself ("500.11 GB ST9 blah blah Media) is Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but the simple Macintosh HD listed under it is only Mac OS Extended. ML installer says I should be able to enable journaling in Disk Utility, but I can't find out how and would rather not back up the entire computer and do a clean install. I don't even think I have enough room on my external HD to do that. How do I enable journaling?

ha, saw that right after posting. Well, that and the big green "enable journaling" button. Got all worked up when I saw it and thought no ML for me for a few hours :), didn't even see what was obvious. Guess the mods can delete this thread, or leave it as a badge of my shame :D

Happens to the best of us. No real shame. Just lay the blame on upgrade excitement :D

Shame or no shame, we can at least leave it for a laugh. I'm on Mountain Lion now, so I'm happy whether or not it's up here :D

Not so simple for me

Same situation here...
"the Media itself ... is Mac OS Extended (Journaled) but the simple Macintosh HD listed under it is only Mac OS Extended"
...except clicking Enable Journaling just gives me a dialog saying it cannot be done for this volume (with no further explanation).

This internal drive was originally partitioned for Boot Camp, but removing that partition did not alter the situation--still cannot enable journaling. I had no problem installing Mountain Lion on the other (already Journaled) internal drive, an SSD.
