I have a USB drive connected to my iMac running 10.5.1 it shows in Disk Utility but it does not show on the desktop.

Programs such as LiveType (fonts installed on this drive) can use the drive.

How can I get this drive to show on the desktop, sidebar, etc...

If it's mounted, it should show up in the Finder.

To make it show up on the desktop, check your Finder settings.

I have 3 other drives that show p on the desktop and in Finder.
Just not this one

Any help??

I need to get some files off this drive

any help?? I need to get some data off that drive.

Again this drive shows in disc utility as mounted but it does not appear in Finder or the desktop. My LiveType fonts are stored on the drive and they still appear in LiveType.

The other 3 external drives I have all showe on the desktop and in Finder.
Just not this one particular drive.

Any ideas???

Mine portable HD did the same thing after I dropped it. I powered on, showed up in disk utility but did not mount. I tried to reformatt it and it gave me an input/output error. Does it show up as the correct size in disk utility?

Everything is correct about the drive. The size it right, I can right click in disk utility and View the contents of the drive. It just doesn't show up in Finder or on the desktop.

seeing it on the disk utility is not the same as being mounted. the machine sees it but could not mount it for some reason.

try to "verify disk" from the disk utility.

It verifies fine, everything is as if it is mounted. Disk utility will let me mount and unmount the drive. I can even right click and open the drive in Disk Utility.

The only thing that is wrong is the drive doe not show on the desktop or in finder.

if you open a "Terminal", type "df -h" and see if it's there. it would be helpful if you attached some screenshots.

It is listed when I run that command.

I just fished copying what I need off that drive and reformatted it.
Now it shows

Not sure what happened

Gee..

After upgrading to 10.5.1, I am facing the same problem too.

My portable harddisk just disappear from the desktop. It was there before I upgrade the OS.

The portable disk is a FAT32 disk. I checked it on my Windows machine and everything is OK.

Weird...
