Hi Guys,

I just got the Extreme Pro SSD from OWC but may have forgotten to get the 3.5" mounting bracket. Is this needed to install this into the Mac Pro or can I just screw in the 2.5" SSD?

is there anywhere in the uk that sells the owc brackets? I was going to stick the SSD Boot drive in my spare optical drive in my MP 2010.

Its £150 for the 120GB Mercury Electra 6G and bracket - but if i get hit with tax, itll be £180 + £8 fee so could be up to £190

so really just need a cheap bracket in the UK (seems pointless buying it from USA? ) and the 120GB Drive i can get for £120 in the uk. (a ocz drive)

Look for an Icy Dock Converter and Enclosure Comboavailable for about ten quid from eBay sellers in Hong Kong. Make sure you get the metal and plastis Icy Dock as they lock the drive in as the top closes. dailydeal823 is one such seller.

A mount isn't a necessity, as there's no moving parts in an SSD.

But there are options:
  1. DIY (zip ties, velcro, drill some holes in one of the metal plates off of an old, DOA optical drive, thin plywood or fibre glass <clean PCB material would be brilliant here>,...).
  2. Put the following 2 generic mounts together: 2.5" to 3.5" and 3.5" to 5.25"

ignore - ive bitten the ssd and bought from owc - hopefully will slip through without tax, if it does, probably the same (maybe +/- £10) as buying the bracket from owc and the drive from uk

I have the cheaper plastic one and that one also locks the drive in place. The plastic one is fine if you don't care about the looks of the case.

Good work. Would you apply super glue and crap to a new Jaguar? That is the comparison.

Here down under GST (like your VAT) only applies to goods over the $1,000 mark).

I'm not sure on min tax free - think its £9!!! - I had to pay tax for 24 season 7 which I gt from amazon us :( (about £45)

You do realize that most car badges these days, such as the one on the bonnet/front grille, is glued on, not fastened down. :p

And in this case, we're talking about a system that's meant to be upgraded internally by the user. So appearance can take a backseat to cost effectiveness. Now if it were out in the open (external where the user and others will see it), then a DIY solution is likely to be an eye-sore.

Didn't know this (I assumed that VAT/GST applied with anything greater than $0.01 as it is with state sales taxes here in the US). Thanks. :)
