First up the mouse.
I have a mighty Mouse and yesterday the scroll ball just stopped letting me scroll down, it goes up no problem, i've tried pressing it and rotating the ball but still no use. Is it fixable or do I need a new one?

2nd is a bigger problem
I was on my mac this morning and everything was running ok (apart from the mouse)
Now when I came home from work and turned my mac on my keyboard isn't being recognized anymore. Bluetooth keeps searching for it and bringing back no results found. I'm typing this on my piece of junk I call a PC.
I can't use my PC Keyboard on the mac as its a different fitting so I can't use my mac anymore.
I've tried ringing up Apple but they were useless and just kept wanting me to pay them £35 to not do anything. I had a quick look in the Bluetooth thread started today but it didn't seem the same problem.
Batteries weren't the problem, new ones had the same effect.
I haven't touched any settings or changed anything.
Tried blowing any muck off the keyboard.
I'm stuck for things now

It seems all my problems are coming together - mouse, keyboard, fonts messed up. :(

Any ideas?
I'm desperate

thanks

You could try blasting the mouse with some compressed air. Sounds like it could just have some dirt stuck in it.

The keyboard seems to have a bigger problem...

I'm not sure what it could be, though.

That's why I always have a cheap wired alternative for any wireless things I have (mouse/keyboard etc)

can you buy cheap mac keyboards from the usual high street shops or computer shops?

as for blowing air into it, would a hairdryer work or should I not use hot air?

You should get a can of compressed air designed for cleaning computers...they're cheap and safe for the electronics.

Any keyboard with a USB plug will work on a Mac, and you can get USB keyboards very cheap at electronics stores.

Try this for Bluetooth problems on Mac OS 10.4

I had a similar problem today. I downloaded the latest Bluetooth Firmware Updater and things are back to rosy with me and the keyboard...

http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/

Bluetooth Firmware Update 1.2.1 (PPC)
The Bluetooth Firmware Update v 1.2.1 fixes Bluetooth performance and reliability.

thanks for the replies
I went for the easy option in he end and bought a new mouse and a new keyboard.
I tried the air thing and bluetooth like mentioned but neither seemed to work. At least its working now though :)

i had this very issue, lol it drove me crazy to the point i went and bought a new mouse.

only to find out that it is a super simple fix.

Take a sheet of plain white paper, ( unplug your mouse for this obviously ) roll the ball on the white paper vigorously ( not super hard, but enough to depress the ball a decent amount ) i ran mine in circles around the paper, and after a bit you could see all the nasty gunk from the ball on the paper! but it worked like new after that!

give it a try :)
